The year is 2025, and Allerdale Hall has sat abandoned for more than a century. Yet, despite all logic dictating that the place should have very well collapsed on itself long ago, the house remains. Deserted, avoided. A derelict monument to a forgotten dynasty. Those who naively enter fall mysteriously ill. Accidents happen.

Alice Warner just wants to make it through college alive. (And really, is that too much to ask?) But that plan is thrown out the window when she receives a call informing her that her stepfather has died, and left her a massive problem.

The man bought a crumbling Victorian mansion in the middle of nowhere and secured a television deal with HGTV to make a Halloween limited series about its renovation. Only, with her stepfather dead, and Alice the sole heir to his dicey choices, the network is now turning to Alice and all her meager acting experience to star in the reality TV show. They won't leave her alone about it, and... well, they're sort of scary.
