There is one sin that, even when you fail me, I want you to know that I try to bury, but that I will not bury any longer.

So that I can let go of this… hate.

Because my last sin is that I hate you.

I hate you.

This hate that I thought- that I convinced myself- it was for the Elders.

For everything they put me through.

For waking me up every day to watch me fail over and over again,

For every day of not being good enough.

And to get me back up the next day to do it again.

And so I know what lies before me:

Another failure, another disappointment.

For every day of failure.

When I fail this time, I don’t want to do it anymore as the weapon you sharpened.

But it’s not. It’s not them I hated.

I want to do it as Gillion Tidestrider, not just the person you made me, but the person I have become.

So fail me one last time.

It was myself.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be the Chosen One that you wanted.

I’m not even the Chosen One I wanted.
