We'll be fine

To find the apples, there are various possible solutions: going to the world of the living, or...a certain garden in hell, which the king is trying to keep secret for the moment. It's supposed to be a present for three very important people, so he can't afford to ruin the surprise. So the choice quickly falls on the world of the living.

So it's in a forest clearing full of apple trees that the strange royal ‘couple’ are at the moment. Eve, perched on the shoulders of her husband, Adam, is trying to catch as many ripe apples as possible to put in the basket that the first man is holding in one hand.

A little further on, a worried Lucifer still hasn't got round to picking, so much so that he almost jumps when Lilith puts a hand on his frail shoulders.

-You seem preoccupied, Lu-lu. Is something wrong?

-It's nothing, Lili. Just a few ugly thoughts, but nothing different from usual.

A nervous chuckle escaped from the king as his gaze shifted to the grass. Again and again, he wondered if Adam and Eve were really happy with them. Of course, they had renounced paradise to come and join them in hell, a choice they took entirely on themselves, which Adam never stopped recounting with pride, describing how funny Sera's face was to see.

‘The look on her face when me and Eve smashed our halos on the floor! You should have seen it!!!’

In fact, even though they weren't visible under their human disguises, they ended up with halos again. Black, with a few spines. Adam's is slightly cracked on the side, a sign that he probably tried to break it again. Perhaps a reminder that they belong up there, not down here, rotting among the horrors of evil human souls.

Lilith removes her hand. She's used to her husband's bouts of depression, ever since he fell, ever since the angels dared to separate their group. She, too, sometimes wonders if the other two have any regrets, but Eve's sincere smile melts her doubts away like snow in the sun. Unlike Lucifer, Lilith doesn't let her doubts consume her, although they are present, lurking in the back of her mind.

With an elegant gait, she approaches her two other companions. Because of her height, she doesn't need a ladder, or to make cute eyes at Adam to be carried, she easily reaches the apples.

-....Li-li, what the hell is Luce doing? We're not here to collect as many apples as we can together to help no-..Your daughter for a banquet at her hotel?

The hotel isn't exactly a project that delights Eve and Adam. They both seem to have an all-consuming hatred for the golden paradise and don't have the same vision as Charlie. However, they've come to the conclusion that if the sinners get sent up there, paradise will be in for a world of hurt. This simple motivation is enough for them to want to help from time to time. Eve loves to visit Charlie in spite of everything... From time to time, she helps her to organise activities or suggest ideas. In fact, it was Eve who came up with the good idea of proposing a ‘family activity once a week’ with the four of them and Charlie.

A good idea in itself, Charlie takes Vaggie along occasionally...who is always terribly embarrassed to find himself under the gaze of the four people who rule Hell. Well... Only Lilith and Lucifer are really recognised, but Adam and Eve still have a minimum of authority.

-....Still glum? He was already looking pretty bad just before we left.

Eve finally climbed down from her husband's shoulders, glancing at the figure behind them. Before Lilith can say anything, the first man grabs an apple and throws it at Lucifer, who ends up yelping as he catches it on the forehead.

The apple rolled to his feet as he rubbed his new bump, glaring at Adam who just grinned.

-You almost done daydreaming? Get your ass over here so we can finish picking these apples! Didn't you say you needed a lot for this fucking banquet? I'm warning you, if you don't help us, we'll fuck off and leave you to it.

Adam royally ignores Lilith's frowning eyebrows and Eve's outraged look. But it seems to be working, because a few minutes later, the little king starts laughing, as if he'd just been told the best joke of the millennium. Lucifer finally approaches the group.

-Oh Addie, do you miss having me around so much that you attack me with an apple?

-Nah, you looked like you were in another world and I felt pity for you. Now help us pick the apples.

Lucifer simply chuckled. He approached a tree and winced as he realised how ridiculously small he was. His three other companions were twice his size and he was just a dwarf.

-Would you like me to carry you, Lu-Lu?

Yellow-faced, Lucifer waves both hands in front of him in refusal, to the amused smile of his wife. Normally he wouldn't mind! But he didn't feel like being a bit more ridiculous. He glanced around, checking that there were no humans around. Then he turned into a bird and landed in a tree. Then a white octopus grabbed as many apples as possible and threw them all at the first man. To the laughter of the two women, Adam tries to dodge as best he can, hurling insults along the way.

Things seem like they're about to get hot and steamy, but then the four just end up all crying. Let's be honest here, none of them asked for the lives they got nor ended up with. They all just got born from nothing and told "Hey, you're alive now....do things."
