Ok, so today I decided to take part in an ongoing OC Edit Exchange being run by @eddysocs.

In exchange for my request, I decided to attempt to recreate one of her OC’s in Sims 4, since I know I’m pretty decent at making sims and not so great at making my own edits. The OC I went with for this one was Eddy’s character for Doctor Who, Maggie Reed.

She might not be entirely accurate, but I did my best, especially considering how much you have to compromise on Sims 4 by nature. Either way, I hope you all, especially Eddy, like how the sim turned out.

I don’t know if you know the Chrestomanci series, so I thought I’d give a quick summary. Basically, any time there is a significant event like a battle, there are two possible outcomes and that creates two different worlds, one where Napoleon won, for example, and one where he lost. These are called the Related Worlds and the groupings of each are referred to as ‘Series One’, ‘Series Two’, etc. On a more individual level, we all have counterparts in different worlds. So, our world is 12B in the Chrestomanci series. 12A has magic while 12B does not. 

Chrestomanci is actually a title for a nine-lifed enchanter. (Enchanters being the most powerful of magic users.) They have no counterparts in the other eight worlds, which accounts for them having nine lives. The seat of the Chrestomanci is Chrestomanci Castle in England in 12A. The job of the Chrestomanci is to police the use of magic in the Related Worlds and prevent magic users from using magic to cause harm. Saying Chrestomanci three times will summon Chrestomanci.

DWJ never wrote about a female Chrestomanci but I’ve thought about the idea a lot and I had the idea for a series on them. I haven’t quite worked out whether it’s like, each female Chrestomanci is the first female Chrestomanci in her story or not but the tentative ideas I have are for a female Chrestomanci in 1500s Italy and she would be an ancestor of both feuding families in The Magicians of Caprona and Virginia.

Virginia’s fic would be set in the Regency era but like the Regency era in 12A so not, 100% like our own. She is the middle child of three sisters and very much the poster child for middle child syndrome. Her older sister is dutiful and well-behaved, knows what to say in polite society, and her little sister is the family beauty and charming and funny. The Gardiner girls are country gentry and being brought up accordingly. They have magic lessons but the lessons cover decorative and/or useless magics, like summoning a hand mirror or revitalizing dead flowers.

Virginia isn’t even particularly good at that and no one, much less her, suspects that she could be a nine-lifed enchanter. She’s at her sister’s engagement party and dealing with a deluded suitor when Ginny leans too hard against the balcony railing, it gives way under her weight, and she falls to her death.

Except that that’s not the end of it, of course. She was pronounced dead and then is alive again, which comes as a shock to everyone. This leads her to be spirited away to Chrestomanci Castle to be trained properly, and for the government to figure out what to do about the next Chrestomanci being a woman.

Virginia has to deal with sexism, she learns magic, and she falls in love.

Ginny is introverted but with a snarky inner voice which very occasionally makes itself known aloud. She likes poetry, nature more than people, the companionship of women, and music.
