Ship analysis
It’s just so compelling to me that Eddie and Marie (if we overlook her unhealthy obsession with Edd) are two sides of the same coin, as well as Edd (Double D) and Chrissy Cunningham.
Here’s why:
Marie Kanker and Eddie Munson are freaks of their own kind.
The look of Marie and Eddie are inspired by rockers and metalheads.
Eddward (Double D) and Chrissy had a good attitude and sweet nature, despite pre-existing bias.
Marie and Eddie has a soft side, and are willing to go to great lengths for the other—Marie is willing to make Edd a meal and please him, while Eddie attempts to make Chrissy feel at ease after realising she was uncomfortable (due to having seen the grandfather clock).
Despite the polar opposites, they’re similar to their counterparts.

Edd: I’m sorry, Marie...
Marie: How could you?!?
“We’ve created a monster. Marie is the beast.”
“We’ve created a monster,” Edd’s voice shook. His body trembled as tears soaked his face. He and Eddy were alone in the school hallway right after racing out from the cafeteria. They ran as far away as possible to block out the hideous laughter.
“Marie is the beast!” Eddy angrily growled. He stomped his fists against a wall, shaking the school hallway. He snatched one of the insulting flyers about himself and Edd and ripped it to shreds.
Feeling his heart swell, Edd wasn’t surprised. After Marie discovered that he was cheating with her on Eddy Marie’s first instinct was revenge. Marie was not the kind of girl to take anything lightly.
Edd never saw Marie look so broken. And this all occurred right after Marie confessed to how broken she felt, only wearing a ‘tough girl mask’ to hide how scared she felt about herself and the world. Eventually, Edd was going to tell her but he had no idea when or how she’d react. Now, he felt as if he deserved this punishment.
“I could just punch her if she weren’t a girl!” Eddy grumbled curling up his fists.
Edd placed a hand on Eddy’s shoulder to which he jumped. Confused, Edd removed his hand quickly.
Sighing, Edd looked apologetic, briefly trying to calm down for Edd’s sake. “Sorry.”
“You should control your temper better, Eddy,” Edd implored.
