Pre-eclampsia is characterised by high blood pressure and protein leaking into the urine during pregnancy, which can become life-threatening for both mum and baby. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ The blood supply to the placenta develops abnormally, limiting blood flow to the developing fetus instead of increasing it. This stunts growth, releases inflammatory factors, and results in rising blood pressure which can wreak havoc around the body.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Medics check blood pressure often during pregnancy to catch and manage pre-eclampsia early. It can be treated by good blood pressure control, and often an earlier delivery of the baby is planned.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ If anyone has experienced this - what might you want medics to know about what it was like? Preeclampsia is when your blood pressure sky rockets, you have protein in your urine and severe swelling. Without treatment (delivering your child) it can cause death.
