#ebon light

This visual novel came out a few years ago, so I don't know if anyone's even gonna see this post but I'm still buzzing from playing this visual novel... So, anyway, have a love interest ranking. Some minor spoilers ahead.

Also, I made separate MCs with different names and personalities for each love interest, so I'll jot that down as well.

Also also, let me just say that I really enjoyed all of the love interest, so last place isn't really last place.

Anyway, let's jump into it.

5. Duliae

Duliae comes across as this powerful, influential figure who is pulling all the strings and he remains this way for the entire game. He is very cunning, very manipulative, but also a sweet talker. I found his personality to be very amusing. There would be scenes where MC would be distressed because of something she did or is happening to her, and Duliae would immediately go into "Quick, how do spin this to my advantage" mode. I wish his past was more explore since him and MC had similar origins and it would've been a good opportunity for them to bond.

The reason why I put him last was because of his frankly murky intentions. He was obviously drawn to MC becuase of what she ingested at the beginning at the game which makes her both powerful and useful to him. I was honestly waiting for a moment where Duliae genuinely crashes out over MC, a moments where he chooses her over her power, but that moment never came? Yes, he was shaking in that one scene in the game, but nothing extreme. It makes you wonder if he's truly with MC for the right reasons or if she was just one more lover in his long life.

(MC: Inez - bratty, posh, caring)

4. Haron

Haron surprised me a lot. At the beginning of the game, he comes across as this mischievous, highly intelligent flirt. You assume that he is going to be the bad boy. Turns out, Haron is probably the sweetest guy in the game. Even if you're not doing his route, he still admires the fuck out of MC (and I believe that he's in love with her in other routes as well). At first, he's drawn to her becuase of her power, but very quickly he becomes drawn to MC specifically.

And let me tell you, this boy adores MC. He practically worships the ground she walks one, he even gives her this sweet nickname with which he basically calls her his shining light. His route it probably the one that develops into romance quickest. In the game, there is a scene which I will call Moonlight scene which is usually the scene where characters get together. Well, with Haron, romance is already heavily implied before that scene. Pretty sure Haron thinks MC is the best thing that's ever happened to him.

Fourth place only because I am more of a slow burn fan, and Haron falls very quickly. But he's a perfect choice for all you lovergirls/loverboys out there.

3. Laceaga (Lacey)

Laceaga is an asshole, but boy is he entertaining as hell. He's a scout who dragged MC back to his ship/island and into the entire mess she's in. He's a complete dick to MC when he first meets her and then he practically kidnaps her. Not the best start. The banter is spectacular though. You have an option to fuck with him by making MC call him Lacey instead of Laceaga and I saved that option specifically for his route. It pisses him off and it's funny as hell.

Anyway, great banter and when I was playing the first part of the game I was so tempted to make him my favourite LI. The reason he's stuck on No.3 is because, after he and MC get together, he is a bit too nonchalant and slick about it. The Moonlight scene was basically him just saying "Okay, the banter was fun, but let's stop dancing around the issues and just get together". And he definitely comes across as bit unsympathetic at times because of his scout role. Laceaga's ending is very in character though, and one of my favourites.

Also, a tip, the bigger of an asshole your MC is the more Lacey loves you. Like, MC could be surrounded by people who are dead because of her power and she could be saying the cruelest, most selfish thing imaginable and Lacey would just be like "I've never been more attracted to anyone in my life". He is cold, self-serving and loves to feel powerful, so he admires when MC's similar to that.

2. Vadeyn

Vadeyn was my first choice when I first started playing. He was just so. damn. nice! He is one of the only characters who doesn't really care about her powers and is always making sure that she's okay. Even if he isn't your love interest, that boy is looking out for MC 100%. Maybe because he too wants to escape that damn island, but thinks he can't.

He was definitely one of those LIs who is the calm in the storm, just moments of care and sweetness scattered throughout the chaos. He starts of feeling like a really caring friend before it naturally bleeds into romance. I feel like some players maybe wouldn't like how overprotective he was all the time, but I liked it. Especially if your MC is more timid, he really comes across as a knight in shining armor. I was pretty sure he was gonna stay my No.1 until No.1 came along. Sorry, Vadeyn.

(MC: Anika - smart, worried, introverted)

1. Ernol

This emo looking bitch (they are all emo looking bitches tbh) is the best. I saved him for last and I was 50/50 on how well his route was gonna go. Because I liked his blunt, grumpy personality, but I was worried they would make him too stoic in his route. Boy was I wrong.

First of all, don't know for sure if Ernol is autistic, but the numer of times I thought he seemed autistic... Idc, he's autistic. He's too blunt, brutally honest, loyal to Duliae and his people to the point of fixation. I had so much fun interacting with him because each time MC made him laugh I'd metaphorically jump in victory. His relationships with MC starts off like a friendship that sneaked up on you. Even his cousin is "Idk what you did, but keep doing it. This is good for him".

And it's the SLOWEST burn. Because, remember The Moonlight scene? Ernol is the only LI you get together with after that scene. For a moment I wondered if I stumbled into a friendship arc. And it was so entertaining seeing him slowly realize that he's in love with MC because he just didn't get it at all. It was interesting watching him squirm because all of those things he felt loyal to suddenly felt wrong and he had no idea why, and was short-circuiting for a while because of it. But when he gets it? Broooo. That was the most passionate confession out of any of these. He really decided that MC was his new fixation.

I wanna keep him in my pocket.

The Men of Ebon Light

There are plenty of characters in Ebon Light. These five - Ernol, Laceaga, Duliae, Haron, and Vadeyn - appear regularly, each with their own views and attitudes. They're all potential love interests, too, which makes me feel spoiled for choice!

I don't know if you can romance more than one at a time because I haven't tried. I'm on my third playthrough, using each new romance to experience more of the story and so far, it's been quite satisfying. Choosing a favored character reveals more about them and may open up new scenes.

The creator has said that there's no suggested order for romances, except to leave Duliae for last. I intend to do just that, which makes me determined to get through to that fifth playthrough. And instead of being antsy to get it over with, I'm looking forward to it!
