EB Itso is a Danish Artist who portrays the underbelly of urban spaces. He is unconventional in his methods and walks the path that challenges the system and the law. For this installation in the Kochi Muziris Biennale 2018, he suspends a 3700 KG tire to brings forth the ill effects of rubber plantations in Kerala. Titled, Mr. Sun (Slow Violence), the artwork is ironical. Rubber is one of Kerala’s biggest produces and the installation depicts the burden that is on small-scale rubber farmers who, in some cases, commit suicide by hanging themselves on rubber trees when their crop fails of if the prices fall. This was one of the highlights of KMB2018 and occupies prime space.
