He’s placed with people who don’t care, people who aren’t able to care, people who are just clocked out of life. He sees other fellow foster kids get abused used. He’s never anyone’s priority. So he becomes his own. His protectiveness of those younger than him make him lash out. Make him use his fists even though he knows it’s wrong.

After he amasses his rep, he does little to stop it. Who cares, when all they’ll see is what’s written on his record? Crazy, angry kid who thinks his sister is still alive. Who claims uncle E abused him when the man is rich as all hell(and people with good money can’t be awful, can they?).

At some point, it’s just easier to have a wider berth from officers who don’t want anything to do with the local screw-up.

Some people will even pity him. Poor boy, his parents were such good people. Well respected in the community and well off. They’d be ashamed to see how their son was now. A ruffian who stole(because he ran out of rations), fought(to protect his younger foster sibs), and selfishly ran ffom every placement(he won’t stay where he isn’t wanted).

Even as he grows older, even as he gains a new rep as Earth’s Mightiest Mortal, even as he becomes an important pillar in the hero community, he worries. He worries they’ll misinterpret him. He worries they’ll see the darker parts and hate him so much the good parts don’t matter.

Even after his identity is revealed, he doesn’t talk about it. About Uncle E, his life prior to getting his powers, his foster placements. No one can make him talk. Not even the detectives on the teams can learn anything. It’s Billy, and it’s Fawcett, so, no way they’re learning much.

It’s great, having people who care, who love him(they say that word so carelessly. Do they not get the weight behind it?). Billy knows he’s luckier than others to have so many heroes at his side. He knows if he told them about E, about the cops, there’d be a line of his friends outside the police precinct and E’s house. But he won’t.

(there’s a few time travel/rapid aging/losing them for a few years issues, but ignoring those)

,It’s not entirely out there to think that one of them would bring their kid to the watch tower.

I want there to be a fic where someone brings their kid, and have that kid meet Captain Marvel. There’s no doubt on this persons mind that Cap will adore the kid, he’s great at interacting with children, and their right! He’s great with the baby, answering their questions, picking them up, giving them hugs and high fives, all the cool shit!

He’s this 9 foot tall god speaking to a 3 foot tall toddler and answering all their questions with the seriousness of an actual interview, it’s going wonderfully!

When the kid toddles off to go interview another one of the supers, Billy turns with this big grin on his face and asks the parent,

“So how old did you say they were? 2?”

And the parents like,

“No? They turn 5 in a couple months,”

And Captain’s smile just, drops.

His face pales, he looks back at the child who is chatting with one of the more human members and doesn’t even reach their waist. That’s what a four year old looks like, laughing at everything, chubby cheeks, small curls, and teeny tiny body.

That’s how big four year olds are.

That’s how big Billy was.

That’s what Billy looked like after his parents had died and he was sent to live with his uncle.

That was what Billy looked like right before he became homeless

in regards to your post about billy hating ebenezer and the magic spell putting the name of the person you hate most over your head. combine that with the post where ebenezer believes the captain is CC.

he can see it on the news where marvel says, "the name of the person you hate most" and this guy who is positive thats the father of the child he abused and abandoned sees HIS NAME above the head. other people would too, so he becomes ostricized maybe?

i just want him constantly on edge waiting for Charles to come knocking and people coming up with their own headcanons for it

He was coming for him. Ebenezer knew he was. The old man peered out of the window blinds before quickly shutting them. He knew Clarence would be furious if he ever found out about the way he treated his son, but he couldn’t help it. Billy was the perfect culmination of his little brother. They had the same smiles, same oblivious personalities. The only difference was that Billy was a child. A child that wouldn’t know how to defend itself against an adult he was suppose to trust bullying him.

If Ebenezer was being honest, he was almost glad his little brother was dead. He was big on family and no doubt as soon as he found out about the way he treated his son, C.C. likely would’ve been in jail by the next day. So yes, was Ebenezer going to spend to rest of his days as a hermit? Yes. It’s not like he doesn’t already like one anyways.

Meanwhile, with the average Fawcitizen…

Lady 1: “I just can’t believe Cap hates old man Ebenezer.”

Lady 2: “I can’t believe he hates anyone period!”

Lady 1: “I know right, I mean, I understand I guess. The old man would go around scaring people off with how he would do everything but swear at them, but still. It’s a little surprising.”

People eventually started digging into why Marvel hated Ebenezer Batson. They came to the conclusion that they were brothers. C.C. or Clarence Charles Batson was the little brother, and Ebenezer was the older. Now, looking at the younger photos of the two, they indeed look similar. People might’ve thought he was C.C. until it was discovered that the man, his wife, and his daughter were deceased, leaving his son William Batson to go and stay with Ebenezer.

Guy 1: “He had a nephew?”

Guy 2: “I honestly had no idea.” *shrugs* “I don’t remember ever seeing the boy around the neighborhood.”

Ebenezer didn’t leave his house for nearly two months straight. Finally, when he thought all the press about him calmed down. He decided to finally go out. He was walking down the sidewalk, no one having thankfully recognized him. The only thing they had seen were photos of him and Clarence when they were younger. They weren’t exactly looking for an older man. Unfortunately for Ebenezer, fortunately for everyone else though, the man got held up at gun point. Thankfully, Billy saved him.

Also, by the way, Billy one hundred percent thinks Ebenezer knows he’s Billy.

Marvel: *smiling as if nothings wrong but is talking in the most lifeless voice anyone’s ever heard from him* “You know… You know for a second, I considered just letting you die just now.” *hands Ebenezer his wallet back, of course not before stealing every single dollar when the old man wasn’t looking*

Ebenezer: *is about to comment on that statement before he feels the weight of his wallet* “Hey… this feels lighter-”

Marvel: *starts to float off and gives him a little wave*

Ebenezer: “Clarence, you brat! Come back here!” *waves his cane at him*

Marvel: *already long gone now*

See, during his time of being a recluse, the people actually thought Cap was Ebenezer but with some major self hatred, but this single moment, that single line of “I considered just letting you die” confirmed that they were absolutely not the same person and that Cap genuinely hated the man. Plus, you know, they were spotted at the same time standing in front of each other. There’s also the fact that Ebenezer called the Big Red Cheese “Clarence” which was the younger Batson brother’s name. So, now the people think he was revived and hates his brother now. For good reason too, because people eventually did more digging and found out about Ebenezer getting Billy to sign away his inheritance to him, stealing it all. You couldn’t ask any of the currently living Batsons, they just somehow found out.

Also, Billy used that money to treat himself, Mary, and Freddy to a nice meal because he felt like they all deserved it.

Billy, Mary, and Freddy: *all in a booth, drinking milkshakes*

Newscaster: *on a radio* “Just now, we’ve received video of Ebenezer Batson and Captain Marvel interacting!”

Marvel: *on the radio, says the line from earlier*

Freddy: *not really that surprised* “Damn.”

Elsewhere…

Mary: “oh no! That’s horrible!”

Freddy, leaning towards Mary and whispering: “how dare you trash E’s house and not invite me”

Consider:

Ebenezer doesn't kick him out, not at first.

He isn't sure he can keep the money if he doesn't keep the kid and so he's consulting with lawyers all discrete like while leaving Billy underfoot.

It's "easier" that when Ebenezer was first staying with him to look after him because Billy is nearly catatonic with grief.

Billy cries himself to sleep, but learns to do it quietly because otherwise Uncle E will shout and scream at him and Billy can't take it if he sees his dad's face screaming at him like he's the most putrid thing in existence.

Consequently, Billy cries himself into another fever since he'd barely healed from the last one when he'd gotten the news.

Ebenezer doesn't dare hire a caretaker because the fewer people interacting with the boy, and knowing he is under Ebenezer's care the better for when he'd make him disappear.

So he's the one who begrudgingly slaps wet towels on Billy, uncaring as they soak the sheets, and forcing medicine down his throat.

Billy gets so delirious to the point he calls out papa once as Ebenezer looms over him.

Everything is quiet for a minute.

Then Ebenezer leans down and in the cruelest, flat whisper Billy has ever heard, then or since, he says, "Do I look like him?"

And smiles a horrible little smile before forcing another bitter spoonful of medicine down Billy's throat

Thankfully, the fever blurred even that interaction, but Billy occasionally feels that despair, that fear and pictures that horrible face and voice ever so often in his dreams

He heals and Ebenezer gets ahold of his fortune and Billy gets kicked out.

Sometimes the last time that he'd seen his dad and he'd seen Uncle E blend together and Billy hates it because he knows his dad loved him, but he gets confused since he'd been sick both times

And in one, his dad is dressed in his gear and leans down to wish him well and press a kiss to his brow before saying goodbye

Currently I'm doing Billytober: one short fic a day (<500 words) with angst and horror themes, most of which are AUs i wouldn't mind expanding on someday!

Besides Pretty Little Thing I'm also writing 2 fics as part of Fandom Trumps Hate!

One is titled Guilty Until Proven Innocent and is a sequel to my story Cursed City. It features Damian teaming up with Billy Mary and Freddy to prove that Joane Jameson's brother was framed for an attempted assassination of a senator.

The other is (tentatively) titled Unmasked and is about Oliver Queen meeting Red Hood only to discover that he is Jason Todd and throwing a wrench into Jason's UtRH plans by trying to reunite Jason with his family. Lots of identity issues at play since Oliver is childhood friends with Bruce but begrudging coworkers with Batman not knowing they are the same person.

For the next big projects I want to write when I finish Pretty Little Thing:

One Last Chance where Billy is put into a group home and forced into a mentorship program where he is paired with Lois Lane. Together they uncover mysteries, Jumpstart Billy's own career in journalism and help reunite billy with his long lost sister!

Signed with Blood or Bound by Blood (haven't decided between the two) where Ebenezer Batson makes a deal with Lady Blaze to resurrect his son with the caveat that in one year a blood relative would have to die. Ebenezer plans to sacrifice Billy so his son can live but complications arise when the JL (including Captain Marvel) are enlisted to protect the Batsons from Lady Blaze's he'll hounds.
