A mini story: We have had our bay tree for about 14 years. It started life in a small pot on our balcony when we lived on Capitol Hill. We used to sit there and look at our little balcony garden and imagine what it would be like to sit in the back yard (patio) of our own home with all of these little potted plants all grown up. Now, as we sit here in the chilly Spring afternoon sun we look up at that same bay tree that has stretched up so we can see the top from our third floor windows. And, while it just started gracing us with these little yellow flower puffs a few years ago, the entire tree is covered with them today. They have a sweet, slightly lemony fragrance and any and all bees and hummingbirds love them. The leaves have been regulars in our gift baskets to friends and family and in our own cooking and remain vibrant and glisten green throughout our grey winters.
