I don't think people fully understand the significance of the global assault on kosher eateries.
Keeping kosher isn't just "nice to have." It's a core element of Judaism for many Jews. It's a set of commandments about how to do something we do every single day: Eat.
Kosher restaurants aren't just a fun option. They anchor communities. They cater our lifecycle events. And yes, they preserve Jews' ability to go out for a meal once in a while, just like anyone else.
Whereas Jewish schools and synagogues have had to take on the burden of greater security, that expense simply isn't an option for most restaurants.
This isn't just an assault on kosher restaurants.
It's an assault on the ability of Jews to live publicly as Jews around the world.
It has to stop.
