Residents' Concern: Inadequate Snow Removal and Accessibility Issues at Inglis Garden
This is a message to IHC regarding the poor snow removal services recently performed at Inglis Garden in Eastwick. Many residents are dissatisfied with the inadequate clearing of common areas around the building. Several walkways remain covered in snow and ice, creating unsafe conditions.
Of particular concern is the wide sidewalk connecting the ramp in front of the managerās office to the ramp across the parking lot. This pathway was left completely uncleared, making it extremely difficult and potentially dangerous for wheelchair users and pedestrians to navigate the area safely.
I had a medical appointment, and I also observed that the main building entrance did not have a properly cleared area to accommodate CCT (paratransit) vehicle pickups. As a result, the driver was forced to park the large vehicle on Mario Lanza Boulevard, where there was very limited space to deploy the ramp safely. This situation could have been avoided with adequate snow removal directly in front of the building.
Inglis Garden Administration should take into consideration, after every snowstorm, the importance of thoroughly clearing all areas residents rely on for mobility, particularly those used by individuals with disabilities. Ensuring sufficient cleared space for CCT vehicles to safely lower ramps and pick up wheelchair users is essential.
Hopefully, Inglis Garden management will address these issues as soon as possible. Here are photos documenting the areas that require immediate attention, as well as locations where designated, cleared space is needed for paratransit vehicle access.

The Inglis Garden at Eastwick 1 & 2 property suffers from a severe lack of maintenance. A company hired by Inglis House Corporation left a significant mess of dirt in the hallways, obstructing paths for residents and those in wheelchairs, and failed to clean it up.
Despite the company's neglect, residents expected the maintenance staff to use a pressure hose to clean the dirt. However, for weeks, the area has remained dirty and stained with mud. Management has not instructed the maintenance staff to address this issue, highlighting a significant lack of attention to detail and property upkeep. Many residents of E1 and E2 interpret this neglect as a reflection of management's disrespectful view of them, believing management perceives them as uncaring about their living environment. In contrast, many residents desire a clean, well-maintained living space where management demonstrates respect and understanding.
Gross was the only member of the cast who didnāt have to audition. He has been turning down offers for American TV pilots for years. āItās not that I was playing hard to get,ā he says. āI was busy doing other stuff. But in Hollywood, if you say no it seems to increase your value.ā
Itās hard to find a more sterling screen icon of Canadian virtue than Paul Gross. He became famous in the 1990s as a mild-mannered Mountie in the hit series Due South, squeezed romance from curling in Men With Brooms (2002), and cast himself as a heroic symbol of Canadian military sacrifice in Passchendaele (2008). Resisting the lure of Los Angeles, Gross has devoted his career to Canada as our star-in-residence, while serving as a tireless CanCon advocate in the trenches of cultural nationalism. So it comes as a bit of a shock to learn that Captain Canada has sold his soul to the Great Satan.
Gross is playing the devil, or a version of him, in Eastwick, a new ABC series based on the John Updike novel Witches of Eastwick and the 1987 movie of the same name. In the show, which premieres Sept. 23 on CTVās A channel, he plays Darryl Van Horneāthe lecherous tycoon portrayed by Jack Nicholson in the movieāwho shows up in a small town and draws a trio of women into his sulphurous sphere of influence. Itās Desperate Housewives meets Sex and the City at a craft fair.
Leading the harem/coven, Amazonian beauty Rebecca Romijn (X-Menās Mystique) is cast as an oversexed ceramic artist named Roxie who longs to āmeet someone dark and dangerous and exciting who moves here in a cloud of scandal and everywhere he goes he stirs up sex and trouble.ā Gross makes his entrance buck naked, stepping from an indoor pool in Darrylās playboy mansion and offering himself to Roxie, who says, āYou are vain, charmless, creepy, pretentious, arrogant, your hair is from 1982. And you arenāt nearly as handsome as you think you are.ā
So how did this clean-cut Canuck get cast as the devil? āWell, weāre not calling him the devil,ā laughs Gross, speaking by phone from Los Angeles. āWhen I met Rebecca, she said, āWe were so looking forward to meeting you, but we donāt really understand how a Canadian can be a devil. Ooooh scary, a Canadian devil!ā ā Gross was the only member of the cast who didnāt have to audition. He has been turning down offers for American TV pilots for years. āItās not that I was playing hard to get,ā he says. āI was busy doing other stuff. But in Hollywood, if you say no it seems to increase your value.ā
Gross, who now divides his life between his Toronto home and a hotel in Santa Monica, says Los Angeles has changed a lot since he was last there in the ā90s. āThe fear is palpable. Thereās an earthquake under way in film and television. The bottom line has shrunk to insignificance. And the era of giant network TV is coming to an end. Everyone knows it, but nobody knows what to do about it.ā
Whether Eastwick survives beyond 13 episodes remains to be seen. But Gross hasnāt abandoned Canada. He plays an American gunslinger in Gunless, a western movie spoof shot in B.C. last spring. CBC is negotiating to air a sitcom pilot based on Men With Brooms, which he wonāt be starring in. And heās developing a Canadian heist movie.
Meanwhile, he welcomes the change of pace. āPasschendaele was a long haul, and I needed something where I wasnāt carrying the can for everything. I swim in the Pacific Ocean every morning before work, and then just put on some clothes and act.ā Or take them off. He has a number of nude scenes, all chastely concealed. (It is, after all, a network show.) Playing an American devil āis a blast,ā adds Gross. āItās a strange part because it isnāt entirely human.ā And thereās no escaping the shadow of Jack. āI canāt help that thereās a little bit of Nicholson banging around in me,ā he admits. āHeās like one of the faces of Mount Rushmore. When I find myself doing things that are similar to him, I sort of back off.ā
Paul Gross is no Jack Nicholson, but his straight-arrow image as a Mountie in Due South or a soldier in Passchendaele (a film that was as much a mission as a role) is misleading. As a pure actor, heās done some of his best work as the half-mad, demonic theatre director in the Canadian TV series Slings and Arrows, which gave full rein to his subversive wit. As a Lothario-lite, he brings the same air of playful mischief to Eastwick, though in a more conventional format. āVirtually everything I say has a sexual connotation,ā says Gross. One day the studio, which he calls āthe Brothers Warner,ā interrupted shooting to drag the crew into a marathon meeting about sexual harassment. āAnd Iām thinking, thatās what Iāve been hired to doāhow can I meet their guidelines and still fulfill my contract obligations?ā In deals with the devil, thereās always a catch.
