Countdown to 1r0n anniversary (65/73) - favourite moment in every episode: Jon touches Drogon and Jorah returns to his queen - Eastwatch (7x05)
Theyâre not beasts to me. No matter how big they get, how terrifying to everyone else, theyâre my children. - Daenerys Targaryen
7x05 - Eastwatch // 8x05 - The Bells
âBend the knee and join me, or refuse and die.â
Daenerys Hypocrisy #2/Terrible Judgment
This is from season 7 episode 5
Daenerys Targaryen:Â âI know what Cersei has told you, that Iâve come to destroy your cities, burn down your homes, murder you and orphan your children. Thatâs Cersei Lannister, not me. I am not here to murder. And all I want to destroy is the wheel that has rolled over rich and poor to the benefit of only the Cersei Lannisters of the world.â
Lol, she does exactly all of these things. Also, the Wheel still benefits her as monarch of the Seven Kingdoms. Itâs a dynasty she wants, that's not in consideration of what all want.Â
Daenerys Targaryen: âI offer you a choice, bend the knee and join me, together we will leave the world a better place than we found it. Or refuse and die.â
Not like they have much of a choice in the matter.
Drogon:Â âScreeches like a scary mother fucker.â
Intimidating people into joining your cause is always a surefire way to guarantee loyalty in the long term. Not.Â
Daenerys: Targaryen:âYou will not trade your honor for you life, I respect that.â
Then proceeds to forfeit her own honor by melting two people who don't agree with her alive and denying them a quicker and more dignified death.Â
Dickon Tarly:Â âYou will have to kill me too!â
Randyll Tarly:Â âStep back and shut your mouth!â
Daenerys:Â âWho are you?â
Randyll Tarly: âA stupid boy.âÂ
LOL TRUE DAT
Dickon Tarly:Â âI am Dickon Tarly, son of Randyll Tarly.â
Tyrion Lannister: âYou are the future of your house, this war has already wiped one Great House from the world. Donât let it happen again, bend the knee!âÂ
Dickon Tarly:Â âI will notâ.
Daenerys then proceeds to punish Rickon for standing with his father, a show of honor and respect for Randyll. She doesn't respect shit.Â
Tyrion Lannister:Â âYour grace, nothing scrubs bold notions from a manâs head like a few weeks in a dark cell.â
Daenerys Targaryen: âI meant what I said, Iâm not here to put men in chains. If that becomes an option many will take it. I gave them a choice, they made it.âÂ
Taking prisoners of war is WAY DIFFERENT FROM KEEPING SLAVES. JUST SAYING. AND THAT WAS A PRETTY IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE DANY. Also, allowing men to be imprisoned gives them time to rethink their decisions and Westeros would see Daenerys as a benevolent and smart queen. BUT OH WELL!Â
Tyrion Lannister: âYour grace, if you start beheading entire families...âÂ
Daenerys Targaryen:Â âI am not beheading anyoneâ (says this like a coldblooded psychopath)
Tyrion Lannister:Â âYour Grace..â
Our pyromaniac queen interrupts astute political advice from the man she named as her Hand. And DAMN STRAIGHT YOU ARENâT BEHEADING THEM, THATS WESTEROSI STYLE, LETS LIGHT THIS SHIT UP, AND PERPETUATE THE IDEA THAT DANY IS A RUTHLESS FOREIGN CONQUERER WHO DOESNâT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT WESTEROSI CULTURE.Â
Someone else has pointed out that executing POWs is a war crime, now that doesn't apply in this high fantasy setting, and that's chill. However, Dany makes the dumbass decision to not only wipe out the head and heir to a Great House that could've been an awesome ally, and fails to see the power in keeping Randyll and Dickon as a bargaining chip. Iâm sure that Randyllâs wife and daughter would gladly bend the knee and convince other houses to do so if Dany spared her husband and sonâs life.Â
There you have it. Dracarys Daenerys being a hypocrite, and a shit ruler at that.Â

So I noticed something again, this time instead of focusing on the center line, I focused on framing. I read some people on here a long while ago talking about how it was a mistake to have Jon and Jorah (Eastwatch episode) in the same scene with Dany because the on-screen chemistry between her and Iain glaringly reveals the lack of it between her and Kit. I was wondering, if I rewatched the scene eyeing the framing, if Iâd notice anything different between the two. And I did.
Love is in the eyes, yes? So is emotions. Notice how the eyes line up between Dany and Jorah?
And notice how they donât with Jon?
There is distance between them, and this choice in editing is subconsciously sensed by the viewer (you have to work harder to look between Jonâs eyes and hers, while there is no effort between her and Jorah). I think itâs clear here Dany has feelings for Jon, but he does not have them for her. This is amplified as theyâre leaving, as Jorah looks back at her, but Jon does not.Â
I thought it was an interesting way to edit the scene. I also think itâs interesting if Dany gets to experience the same unrequited love that Jorah went through with her. This will make what happens in season 8 interesting, and Iâm definitely expecting quite a few broken hearts... **weeps internally**Â
And this is just a personal opinion, but I also donât think Dany knows what love is. After time, she loved Khal Drogo, but that relationship began with trauma (arranged marriage, rape) and she later learned how to survive it by using her body to her advantage. She thought it was love (her first relationship) but in season 7, she finally admits it was rape. Daario was a fling, and she talked to Tyrion how she thought she might cry saying goodbye to a man she loved, but she didnât (so she didnât love Daario). She did cry, however, when Jorah with greyscale was saying goodbye to her.Â
Anyway (end tangent, coming back to my point), the filming of this scene would be considered a mistake if Dany is meant to end up with Jon. But if Jon and Dany arenât endgame (I personally donât think they are), than this implies something else entirely.
Oh, season 8, you are going to torture me, arenât you?Â
Rewatching 7x05 and realising yet again what we were robbed of: Jon and Gendry's bromance đ
