Yesterday, I finally took the time to mount my new bird feeder atop the post in the middle of the yard. I shored up the post with some short cedar pieces I picked up from Lowe’s ages ago. Funny thing—they’ve been sitting in the backyard shed for years, just waiting for me to get around to it. Kind of like the computer behind me, close enough to touch, with a new fan ready to be installed. I procrastinate sometimes.
Truth is, I take my leisure time more seriously than I used to. My philosophy? If you own a recliner, you’d better use it—otherwise, it’s just going to waste. That’s an important truth, straight from the Drama Llama.

Gray Guardian of the Pecan Tree
This is and eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) nestled in an ancient pecan tree (Carya illinoinensis) that I saw in rural Georgia. Gray squirrels are native to Louisiana as well, but I don't see near as many as I do when we go to Georgia. The photograph quality isn't super, I'm not certain where the camera focused, not on the squirrel apparently. But I think the old tree branches with lichen and decay adds character and makes the photo interesting. The photo won't make to my pixels gallery (https://swede1952-photographs.pixels.com) though.

Recon Squirrel
My dog Charlie and I were sitting the backyard one afternoon when I noticed the eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) crawl out on a pine tree limb that was in the forest to the east. I'm almost certain that the squirrel was spying on the backyard to see if it was a good moment to make a move.
