What do you prefer most: ear defenders, noise canceling headphones, loops, or a different option?

I use Bose noise cancelling headphones. I used to use regular ear defenders, but switched once I found out how amazing noise cancelling is. Ear defenders squeeze my head and hurt if I wear them for more than an hour or two at a time, but I can wear my headphones for most of the day and only come away with sweaty ears at the end.
I use wax earplugs specifically in the movie theater because ear defenders and headphones make the sound too quiet, and I can’t hear the dialogue. I have very small ear holes, and every foam or plastic rubber-tipped earplug I’ve tried has been too big and fallen out.
Bose are very expensive, but for me, saving up for the quality was worth it, because they’re a tool I rely on heavily every day. I can’t leave the house without them.
