(General FNAF) When did u first start liking Andrew and Jake/Thw Stitchwraith and why did u feel so strongly towards them?
(EAPS) And how do you think Andy, Jake and Andrew felt about their first birthdays with Eclipse?
It was actually TSBS' fault to start. MGFS was only like 3 months in when I joined the TSBS fandom, so I caught up easily, and this guy was my first Big Plot Point/Villain I was around for. I am a big fan of AUs and seeing how people alter a canon to fit their own narrative, so I was hyped for this guy! Then i learned they were kids and I went "oh, well, mine now."
As for EAPS, let's see.
Jake's first birthday is one that they do their best to make a big deal of, which Jake is grateful for. He hasn't had a good birthday, let alone a party, since he was five! They invite some friends over to go to the park (other kids from remote homes in the county who can't make it into town every day for class, but who could swing a weekend visit), where Roxanne's reserved a park shelter for presents and cake and pizza. Eclipse makes sure their illusion discs work, keeping their robotic joints and glowing eyes hidden, and even gives one to FC so he can come. Andy sticks to Jake like glue the whole day, making sure he's having a good time. Andrew watches them both, being friends and happy, and alternates between watching for threats (celebrations often get interrupted by surprise villains) and getting lost in his own memories of a less happy pair of the same boys.
I think Andy doesn't remember his birthday. He was so lost and focused on tormenting Wanda for so long, that he didn't have room for anything else in his mind - room to mature, grow older, or remember much of his life before. Andrew shrugs and suggests they share his birthday. Odds are they actually do anyway. Turns out it already passed a while ago, with Andrew not bothering to tell anyone and Eclipse not bringing it up either (he did research into their parents, he likely knows their birthday). Andy excitedly declares they'll have to have an extra cool party next year, when he turns 11 and Andrew turns 16. Andrew agrees. But just cause Andy wants one. (It'll be a nice small party at home, where they and their animatronic friends can be entirely themselves - undisguised and unguarded.)
Longer explanation of my Stitchwraith adoption-as-fave process down below with screenshots of my rambles from the time.
So that was September 2023ish. Someone mentioned the Stitchwraith could be who that was, and I went "no idea who that is, time to research". Rabbit hole happened, I cried over The Real Jake, and by then there were more episodes and I realized I was a big fan of smug bastard villains like this guy. Also he disliked Creator so that's a point his way.
For a while I was operating under the assumption that MGFS!SW was mostly like the books (two souls, similar backstories just with Foxy inserted), but they'd 'grown' into adults. I also used book knowledge to assume who was who in the body once they got confirmed to be two souls. Now, my assumptions were wrong with the names, but only because that's the curveball... Uh but also in the end I was still right with their TRUE natures. But also also Matt legit just read the wiki about the guy, iirc, to get the main bits down, and didn't remember the names/personalities himself, so.
Honestly I just was really into MGFS' story, and SW was their villain. And I loved FC so their link made me invested in SW since it would affect FC!
And then after their talk with Earth, what seemed to me to be pretty sincere self-reflection during 'therapy' and then warnings about their 'father,' I started to soften towards them. They hadn't done anything *too* bad at that point; just gossiped about Foxy, a little blackmail, a little arms dealing. They played games with Eclipse, Phantom Freddy, and Ruined Roxanne, and they enjoyed themselves; even if it's not canon, I softened a bit towards them.
... alright maybe not TOO much.
Then he tortured FC for half an hour by blasting star power through him and I lost all sympathy.
Then there were hints they were kids, I processed that and went "oh god oh no that adds so much depth to their reactions/actions/backstory, my child psychology classes are coming back to me". Then they were confirmed to be kids when they appeared in their shared mind. My little teacher heart went "OH NOOOO."
And I basically latched onto exactly what Matt says here, the thought process of "These are kids. What would it have taken for them to do the things they did?"
And then SW died. Andrew was inexperienced in moving their body and took it over forcefully, leading to Bloodmoon(s) breaking the body down. So then, Jake died saving FC. But Andrew was still left. And I just latched on to the idea of this broken little boy, who lost everything LONG ago and had lied and bullied his way into making SOMETHING out of the scraps he could access, only to lose it all again. Who has to cope knowing that even if Jake wasn't ever his friend, he was still the person he was closest to, the only one he had, and he used him and hurt him and got him killed. Who has reached rock bottom, again, but this time with people around him offering to teach him how to climb out. Who wasn't really ever imagining any sort of normal life ever again, who has to now actually deal with the fallout of what he's done and the people he's hurt.
AND THEN MATT LEFT THE SHOW AND THAT HAD TO BE PUT TO THE SIDE AND I AM STILL SO SAD ABOUT IT. THAT BOY IS NEVER GONNA GET A CHANCE TO REALLY PROCESS HIS TRAUMA (the Creator) OR THE TRAUMA HE CAUSED OTHERS (Foxy, FC). Closest we got was a YEAR AGO, when April 15th they had an episode with him being cagey about April 14th because it's both his Jake's death day AND the day he and his Jake died in the first place. Which made me cry btw but it hasn't been touched again. also Matt did that Q&A post-EAPS finale and I still can't stop thinking about it, the monster
That's why I'm glad that, at least, I could kinda help the kid out (or 'help' depending on how angsty you wanna be) by making that teenaged model. That he's got SOMETHING visible, something outside of his own mind, to show that he Went Through Things. He didn't stay the age he was when he died like Andy or Jake or TJ, he spent 4 years in that suit and he felt every minute of it; might as well look it.
i told you, EAPS asks make me yap. i haven't answered the other one cause i have editing to do and this wasn't supposed to be this long uhhhh
