i feel like ginger and raven being similar characters could've worked in their favor if they embraced it. like maybe had a bring your family member to school day episode, so raven brings her dad yet grows increasingly jealous of the close bond and support ginger gets from her mom. and the two girls have like a magic fight and wind up in detention, where they have a heart to heart. so ginger reveals that she envies raven's relationship with her father because she doesn't have one with hers, whereupon raven confesses that she'd wish her mom could be as accepting of her choosing to be good like the candy witch is of ginger. in the end, they both over being witches with controversial moms. ginger offers to bake her some enchanted cookies, raven offers to do a tarot reading, and idk maybe they even start a coven or something😱😱😱
Aaaa I love this! I'd love to see more of ginger and raven as a duo, they deserve it after the nonsense they deal with daily.
i think the royal vs rebel conflict would feel a lot less one-sided if they'd made the whole "going poof" thing happen in recent history. for example, apple's dad could go poof because he leaves snow to save another damsel in distress (or something) when he's supposed to be running the kingdom with snow. or for even more recent, ramona goes poof because she refuses to become the next big bad wolf. i'd imagine milton is secretly imprisoning the people that go off script, but of course everyone would just assume they're dead. coupled with the evil queen also going off script and ruining wonderland, it'd understandably make anyone afraid to go against their destiny and hopefully make the royal vs rebel conflict feel a little more balanced.
This is fair, but I also don't think it's supposed to be balanced. It's supposed to feel crazy to us that people believe it until you think harder about the conditioning and propaganda they get fed about it. I do still like this idea, anon. It's something I think would be interesting to play with.

shannon hale books were peak writing n i will die on this hill. I see a lot of praise for the plot but i want to also praise the actual writing style it’s so magical and you can tell it was written with love for the story
