Rating Star Emojis!
Apple. 11/10, perfect. I want to look at it forever. It’s nice and round without being too curvy. It’s shiny and shaded nice, and the right tones of yellow. I love it so much.
Google. 4/10 The ends are a bit too sharp for my tastes. I cant tell if I’m imagining the gradient there but either way its too subtle for me. If they were gonna shade it, it should be shinier than this. The outline looks rly weird also.
Microsoft. 8/10. simple, efficient. manages to be round and sharp on the ends. classic black outline. a bit too orange for me.
Samsung. 6/10. I like that they have a different shape. shaded pretty nice. didnt do the google thing where the outline goes weird with the gradient. this ones alright.
Whatsapp. 8/10. pretty good. the shading goes a bit orange at the ends which i dont like too much but i love how shiny it is anyways. the star also looks a tad bloated. overall p good.
twitter. 3/10. too orange. if you’re gonna make a very simplistic symbol, use a better shade of yellow please.
facebook. 4/10. hmm. lemme start with the weird soft shading i am not really a fan of it. its not very shiny :( also i dont really like the way the star looks kinda bloated.
joypixels. 6/10 this feels like an improvement on the twitter design. the yellow is a good shade for something this simplistic. the ends are a bit pointy
openmoji. 5/10 its a lot like the microsoft one, but a better shade of yellow, and a bit more bloated. i think the outline should be thicker and rounder at the ends. i dont like the shape honestly.
emojidex. 2/10. what. bad shape, bad coloring. nope. only saving grace is that the idea of just an outline is kinda cool.
Messenger. 0/10. okay first of all. what the fuck is up with that shading. the shadows and the highlights are badly shaped and they clearly dont agree on where the light source is supposed to be. i hate this color, and i hate the shape of this star.
lg. 3/10. i dont know if you can see on the png but the highlight goes off the star?? wtf. this would be a fine star otherwise if the ends werent so pointy. also not a fan of the background shading. not a great star.
htc. 1/10. i looked up htc hoping that it was just a stylistic choice and none of their emojis were colored. they somehow made the emojidex design worse. i hate it
mozilla. 9/10. cute, simple, classy, balanced. its a very good color and the shape is alright.
softbank. 5/10. the coloring on this one is kinda weird. if they wanted to color match the outline they should’ve matched it a bit closer. if they wanted to add a highlight on one end the other end of the star shouldnt be a lighter gradient.
docomo. 4/10. better than htc, still kinda bad. i know the style of the emojis are partially responsible but this couldve really been colored.
au by kddi. -1/10. i dont think i can describe my visceral hatred for this star emoji. the highlights clearly dont agree and theyre stylised to the emoji set style in such an ugly way with such an ugly color. this star activates my fight or flight response.
