do you know if it is better to use the alt text function that tumblr provides or to put descriptions of images in the captions? or both?
Well, we usually just say both have their advantages and disadvantages. To be really safe, maybe provide a very brief description in alt text and your "full length" description in the caption. Though, if you're going to go with just one, I would suggest putting it in the caption.
Providing the image description in the caption allows more people to access it, like people who may not use screen readers but have processing disorders, or those who have generally low vision but can still see some. But providing alt text also makes it so that people who remove captions of posts can't remove the description embedded in the images.
