Small Garden Trees
If you have never planted a tree before, the prospect of growing such a large and relatively expensive plant can be daunting. Here, this is a blog that will guide and solve your problems.
Hi! I’m debating trying to grow some dwarf fruit trees inside for a couple of years. I live in a swampy area, but plan on moving in the next 3-5 years. Most of what I’ve read says dwarf trees in pots on patios are ok up till a certain size…but what about inside with grow lights? Am I being crazy? I’m probably just panic reacting to all the produce I’ve lost over the years from how hot and muggy and pest infested this area is.
I think you should give it a try! I think it's okay to have them next to a window, and then in the warmer season, to put them outside, I've never tried growing with grow lights, so I have no idea what their limitations are. But it sounds like you have some good ideas, and you'll never know unless you try!
I've seen roots and refuge farm put up a greenhouse during the summer in order to save their crops from mold and rain because it's very hot and humid, and it worked wonders, the plants in the greenhouse were healthier, less exposed to heat, well grown and gave tons of produce! It was less hot because the cover sheet was filtering the sun and providing some shade + there was good airflow when both sides of the greenhouse were open, so I hope that kind of thing might work for you? Sorry I don't have any better advice! I'm still adjusting to very hot summer weather here, but I bet in a few years we'll both have it all figured out :)
Note to self: If I get a bunch of fruit tree seedlings, remember to research:
Bark inversion
Upside-down graft
Reverse grafting
...to dwarf trees without a rootstock.
