Let me introduce you to my Tav: Ermund Jrue Brightrye! A dwarf that calls Baldur’s Gate home. They usually go either by Jrue (pronounced Drew) or EJ and use they/them pronouns.
They are 6th generation in a long line of master distillers specializing in rye whiskey, and were working with their father to take over the family business of producing and selling whiskey before they were Nautaloid-napped. Through this they have met and worked with all kinds of folks. While they enjoy working with their family, Jrue also wants to pursue music, and even looked into studying to become a Bard (they did not realize that dream until after the Nautaloid). They have been playing the violin since they were very young and have excelled at it.
Originally born in a small town Caskshire, their family moved to Baldur’s Gate when they were around 9 yrs old. They come from a large family with a couple of siblings, and many, many cousins, aunts and uncles., but after the sudden move their parents and grandparents never really mentioned their other family members much after that. It wasn’t until Jrue was much older that they learned why they moved away so abruptly. Several of family members made various pacts with devils and established a crime syndicate with grander plans. To keep their children from their influence, EJ’s parents quickly moved to Baldur’s Gate. EJ hasn’t had contact with that side of their family in many decades, they miss the cousins they spent their early childhood around.
Jrue is kind, level-headed, resourceful, quick-witted, with a goofy sense of humor. While they are generally empathetic, they can be vindictive in the face of injustice. Their quick wit can at times lead to putting their foot in their mouth. They have a calming sort of charisma to them that people are drawn to.
After being abducted by the Nautaloid and meeting so many skilled and experienced companions, EJ is at first very surprised that their companions look to them for guidance through their trials and quickly realized that they need to rise to the occasion and leans into the leadership role. Though it shouldn’t've be too much of a surprise given that their previous experience working with all sorts really pays off when it comes to interacting with folks they encounter on their journey.
Their band of misfits, whether they realize it or not, grow and learn from each other, and Jrue’s fresh perspective gives their companions a new insights on their own situations, looking to balance greatness and altruism. In turn, each companion in their own way pushes Jrue to hone their craft and reach new heights.
Multi-classing with Rogue (Thief - all that time playing the violin certainly helped their dexterity) and College of Valor Bard is a natural fit for them. They dislike some aspects of being a Bard though, and avoid using Vicious Mockery or Dissonant Whispers if they can. It just feels too mean-spirited to them and they would rather focus on healing their friends with their music than tearing down enemies with it.
