hi! i'm in love with your amvs, and have fallen, once again, facefirst into motorcity. i was wondering if when you first started doing amvs, you had some sort of how-to that you followed? if not, would you be willing to share some advice for people who want to make amvs but are intimidated by how much they don't know about the process?
Iāve been sitting on this for a hot second because itās kind of a process to explain, but Iād say my big priorities when Iām making an AMV are:
A song with words that I can match to my content.Ā There are a lot of videos out there that are STUNNING in terms of timing and effects and stuff, even though they either donāt have lyrics or donāt match them--but I personally am struck a LOT harder by videos where the words and images are somehow interrelated or add to each other, so if the words donāt mean something I donāt make it.Ā Ā
finding beats and cutting clips to match them!Ā The program I use doesnāt really have effects to speak of, so I make do by fine-tuning my timing as sharply as I possibly can. Sometimes those beats are the rhythm of the song (ie percussion) and sometimes theyāre in the lyrics!Ā Iām especially proud of my Motorcity video to Bottom Of The River--BOY that song has some crisp beats, it was so satisfying to make a video to.Ā Ā
There are other fine-tuning things Iāve started to focus on more as I figure out my process; being judicious about using clips where somebody is visibly talking, making sure I donāt flash up my clips too quickly, trying to limit my own rampant tendency to use fade transitions--but honestly at the heart of pretty much any video that I love enough to favorite, thereās solid timing and meaningful lyrics. :D
Addendum: this is a lot easier on a good program, which can be kind of hard to find especially now that windows movie maker is a flaming pile of crap--thatās why I STILL have my sisterās ancient mac now that sheās moved away, because imovie has been my AMV software for actual decades lol.Ā Iām looking at Vegas Movie Maker as a possible replacement, but thatās not free and is pretty intimidating from my experience. Iām afraid I donāt have any super good program recs for newbie video makers--if my followers do, feel free to add on ofc!
