I saw a rainbow at Devil's Mountain today
I live in one of the few parts of my country that has any sort of hills
Last Saturday was ❤️☺️.
We went to Duivelsberg to go foraging for chestnuts and it was the perfect day 😊. I was actually worried that there wouldn’t be any chestnuts because I haven’t seen any around The Hague, and was told that this year was a poor year for chestnuts because of the weather conditions in the spring (too wet). But happily there were actually plenty to be found, maybe even more than last year!
Anyways, Rob found a beautiful, bright and mossy clearing after a couple of hours in the area and popped the question 💍 . There was some hilarity when I tried to kneel when he knelt 😅, and also when we were taking selfies afterwards and with the height difference it felt like my hand had to keep inching up to his neck to make it into the frame 😂. Overall it was just very ‘us’, which made it perfect ❤️.
De Duivelsberg is een heuvel ten oosten van Nijmegen. De Romeinen bouwden er in de 1e eeuw al een houten fort Om de route tussen Noviomagum (Nijmegen) en Colonia Ulpia Traiana (Xanten) te beveiligen. In de middeleeuwen stond er een motte (houten burcht) op de heuvel om het omringende landschap in de gaten te houden. Vanaf de middeleeuwen hoorde het gebied bij het Duitse graafschap Kleef. In 1949 werd het gebied echter als compensatie voor de schade in de Tweede Wereldoorlog door Nederland geannexeerd. Het omringende landbouwgebied werd al snel aan Duitsland teruggegeven. De Duivelsberg zelf is echter sinds dat jaar Nederlands gebleven. Tegenwoordig is het een prachtig bosgebied dat zich uitstekend leent voor een mooie wandeling. Twee van Nederlands langste wandelroutes (Pieterpad en Rivierenpad kruisen elkaar op de Berg. Vanaf het uitzichtpunt kijk je zo Duitsland in. ————- The Devil’s Mountain (Duivelsberg) is a hill east of Nijmegen. The Romans build an outpost to protect roads between Noviomagum (Nijmegen) and Colonia Ulpia Traiana (Xanten). In medieval times a motte was build at the site. In 1949 the hill and surroundings became Dutch after being German for centuries. It was compensation for damage during World War II. Although the agricultural surroundings were returned to Germany within months, the hill has stayed Dutch since.
