Michael and the purple haired girl stood in the middle of the room, she looked as if she was about to rip his head off and frankly if she tried I don’t think any of us would bother to try and stop her. After about a few minutes Ashton finally stepped up, cautiously putting himself between the two “how about we all just start over?”
Michael rolled his eyes before letting out a sigh and stepping back, mumbling under his breath. Though neither his nor Ashtons actions seemed to phase the girl, so Hannah stepped up slightly tugging on her shirt before she finally stepped back. The two of them throwing themselves back onto the beanbag chairs.
The one with short brown-ish hair stepped forward, her eyes carefully scanning the four of us, she crinkled her nose a bit before she finally spoke up “So, let’s get this straight. You lot own Hi or Hey Records. Which means we, work for you”
"No don’t think of it that way" Ashton spoke up, looking over to us for some back up. Reluctantly I sat up, hoping I wouldn’t immediately regret bailing him out "Look, we think you guys, er girls I suppose, are pretty damn badass alright? And we know how controlling bigger record labels can be, I mean we’ve been there. And we don’t want people to try and change you."
"But why can’t you wrap your simple minds around the fact that we do not like you boys?" All of our eyes darted over to the girl with purple hair once again, who was lazily thrown on the beanbag chair her eyes still focused on the ceiling rather than any of us.
"You don’t even fucking know us though" as excepted Michael was the one who responded to her, which seemed to have already become routine for the two.
As she started to sit up, Hannah let out a sigh holding her arm out In front of the other girls as to tell her to pause for a second. “look both spikey hair over here and Laila have a point. No okay, we don’t know you; honestly I’m not even sure any of your names or what your part in your band is. But what we do know is that in every fucking interview we’re constantly being compared to you. They’re basically telling us that we’d be nowhere if people didn’t think we were girl versions of you all. I mean do you know how shitty that is for someone to say you’re where you are because of some boy band, rather than the fact that you’ve worked your asses off since day one and that people genuinely like your music”
You could see the obvious frustration on her face as she spoke but I still couldn’t help letting out a small chuckle, which just got me a mixture of confused stares followed by one very deadly one.
"You all don’t get it. We know exactly how you feel. If you bothered to learn one fucking thing about us you’d have known we have a lot more in common than you think. So how about instead of just fucking writing us off, you actually give us a damn chance yeah? I mean either way you all are stuck with us"
"Fine." Hannah mumbled "But just until we find a way to get ourselves out of this stupid mess"
The boys and I exchanged hopeful glances, before Michael spoke “Great, so I guess now we just figure out who’s who exactly” His eyes then darted over to the one Hannah called Laila, a smirk on his face “but I think we’ve got a pretty good idea so far”
The next few hours were spent with the eight of us exchanges stories, or in Laila and Michaels case sarcastic comments.
We learned Emily was literally the equivalent of Ashton, she was just as happy and cheerful as him if not more and just like Ash she was also the drummer. Sylvia was the baby of the band, but also the lead singer; she seemed to just take in the whole situation trying to figure out just how she’s handle all this. Then there was Laila, she was a force to be reckoned with; Every sarcastic comment Mikey made she was right there spitting it back at him with no hesitation. Finally there was Hannah, she was quiet for the most post; but when she spoke it was usually something funny or important. I thought she was great to begin with but the second I found out she played the bass and was in both soccer and track, I decided she was damn perfect.
I think the more we talked the more the girls realized we weren’t that bad, and the more I realized how drawn to hannah I really was.
She sat opposite from me, lounging back in a lime green bean bag chair every time someone would get into a long boring story she’d start twirling her hair as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. Whenever she was asked any question she’d bite her bottom lip as she sat there trying to find the words to say. Every now an then she’d glance my way and scrunch her nose, crinkling her forehead just slight and sticking her tongue out at me, whenever she realized I was still staring at her. I wanted to get her away from the other girls, I felt like having her around them would only make her defense. And more than anything I wanted to know what was going on in that pretty little head of hers.
"I think we should break into smaller groups." I finally spoke up, all eyes in the room automatically snapped up to me. " I mean we know the girls obviously sound good together but I mean we need to figure out how they sound individually so why not break into smaller groups? Ash and Emily, Luke and Sylvia, Michael and Laila; then me and Hannah. So we know the instruments and we can get an idea of what were working with."
"Wait, you want to leave me alone with that idiot? Are you sure that’s a good idea?" Laila finally tore her eyes from the ceiling as she sat up furrowing her brows together
"Actually.. I think this could work" Hannah looked over to me, an unsure look In her eyes "we’ve got to work with them. So may as well just start over now. Right?"
The others nodded in agreement “Yeah, we can make this work.” Emily smiled, looking around at the mixture of doubtful and hopeful stares.
After a few seconds we all started breaking off and heading to different rooms. Ashton and Emily, to the recording room. After arguing for about three minutes Michael and Laila grabbed their guitars and head towards the game room. Luke and Sylvia awkwardly stood in the middle of the room looking between me and Hannah. I decided to give in and let them have the meeting room, slightly tugging on Hannah’s shirt for her to follow me.
"Alright lil pup muffin where are we heading?" She so nonchalantly asked, skipping just a few steps ahead of me. I couldn’t help but chuckle at how carefree she was. She was something new, something I wasn’t expecting to find in an industry like this. Something that I wanted to figure out, memorize even. After a moment she cleared her throat pulling me from my thoughts.
"To the roof. It’s my favorite place in the building"
"Lead the way pup muffin" she let out the smallest giggle as she stepped to the side, allowing me to lead the way.
I couldn’t wrap my head around this girl, all I knew was that I wanted to get to know her. I felt the need to know everything, from where she grew up to something as small as what her favorite color was. She was like a new song, something I wanted to practice over and over until I perfected it, until I knew all the pauses and breaks, the slowed parts and the huge break downs. And once I set my mind on something, I never backed down.
A/N: feedback on what you guys think so far would be great! Also, i was thinking i'd make a set day when i posted a new chapter? cause otherwise i procrastinate way too much
Laila's POV
"Hannah wake the fuck up already" I flipped the light switch and in return she let out a load groan and turned towards the wall hugging her pillow tightly "Hannie I swear on everything if you don’t get your ass up now I’m going to get the bucket" the speed of how fast she sat up instantly put a smile on my face
She glared at me, her voice still groggy and eyes barely open, her long brown hair a tangled mess “you wouldn’t”
"Well I guess you’ll never find out now, will you?" I crossed my arms and smirked, and they said she’s be hard to wake up "now come on, we’re leaving in ten minutes"
"Ten minutes?! Really Laila" Hannah yelled before frantically throwing the blanket off of her and jumping out of bed, but not before getting caught up in her bed sheets and practically face planting on her bedroom floor. I couldn’t help but let our a snicker before turning on my heels and heading towards the kitchen. I could already tell it was going to be a long day.
The next ten minutes were spent watching Emily scroll through her twitter feed while syliva laid sprawled out on the couch, watching spongebob; in the background you could hear Hannah either tripping over herself of dropping something every 5 seconds.
"Hey Em?" Her head quickly popped up, a permanent smile on her face. It amazed me how one person could always be so happy; literally I don’t think anyone could ever even compare so how sunshiney Emily was. "Where are we even going today that we need to be up so early?"
"Really Laila?" She half laughed shaking her head, knowing we had went over our entire schedule for this week no more than two days ago "We have to go to some meeting for this new label we signed to. I guess the people who own it are requesting to meet up. So please-" she paused making sure her voice was loud enough for everyone to hear "and this goes for all of you. Try to be on your best behavior alright? We don’t know how these people will be. Usually label owners are old and rude."
After making each of us promise to behave and “if we have nothing nice to say, we’d keep our mouths shut”. We finally made our way over to Capitol records. By now we had come to know almost the names of all the people who worked their regularly, including people who ran the labels so we already had the worst scenarios in mind.
They directed us into a back room that we hadn’t been to before, am array of colorful couches and beanbag chairs were scattered around the room. automatically Hannah and I looked at each other before darting off across the room, practically knocking each other over before we both dived onto the pile of bean bag chairs.
"LAILA. Get off of me!" Hannah screamed in my ear, her bracelet tangled up in my hair; literally the one day I decided to leave it down.
"Hanjob if you yank my hair one more time I swear to god-"
"I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL ME THAT IN PUBLIC. Emily will you stop her please!" Hannah whined as she tried wiggling herself away from me, only causing us to get more tangled up. Emily simply rolled her eyes while Sylvia sat in the couch opposite of us basically laughing her ass off while recording the whole thing.
"Well, this is definitely not what I was expecting" a thick accent followed by multiple snickers filled the room, causing all of us to immediately snap our gaze to the office door
"Who the hell are you?" I questioned, finally untangling Hannah’s bracelet from my hair.
"I don’t really think that’s anyway to greet someone ya know" another not spoke up, this one belonging to a tall blonde boy, with a dinky little lip piercing and bright blue eyes
"I don’t really think I asked for your opinion, ya know?" I shot back which caused Emily to glare at me, in which I just threw my head back and rolled my eyes.
"No but seriously what the hell do you want?" Hannah asked, standing up from beside me "Who are you guys anywa-" before she could even finish her sentence her jaw practically dropped to the floor.
"Nice to see you right side up" and yet another tall ass kid walked through the door, this one was much tanner than the other and he had black hair accompanied by a few visible tattoos. Before Hannah could even answer another one walked in, with a huge ass smile on his face. But the only think I was concerned with was why the fuck these asshole were so damn tall.
Hannah stood there dumbstruck so as usual I took the opportunity to speak up “Who the hell are you guys anyways, and what the fuck do you want from us?” I stood up, crossing my arms as the one with the blonde basically caramel swirled hair looked me up and down, with a stupid ass smirk on his face.
"We’re 5 seconds of summer. Or 5SOS if you need to save some time" the one with dimples bigger than my entire career and golden hair spoke up, that same goofy smile on his face.
"Wait, you’re 5sos?" Hannah questioned before we both exchanged dumbfounded looks, these were the same damn boys who’d been brought up in almost every fucking interview of ours for the past few months.
"That’s us, I’m calum" the dark haired one spoke, jumping on to the sofa before looking Hannah up and down "we’ve already met though"
Hannah scoffed giving him a half assed smile while the others continued introducing themselves. The tall blonde one was Luke; caramel swirl boy was Michael and the one who was happier than me when I was handed some pot brownies was Ashton.
"Look this whole lil introduction thing is cute and all, but seriously why the hell are you here?" I tapped my foot impatiently, glaring at the four idiots who just barged in here making themselves at home.
"We own Hi or Hey Records." The Caramel boy spoke up again
"Wait what?" The four of us spoke up In almost perfect unison, including Sylvia who had been siting in the corner just taking in the whole situation.
"What the hell do you mean YOU own it?" I snapped quickly before being hushed by Emily
"What Laila is trying to say is, we weren’t aware that someone so, uh, young I suppose had their own label is all."
"No Emily, that’s not what I’m trying to say." I glared at her before taking a step towards the boys "what I’m trying to say is, how the actual fuck do you plan on managing is when you can barely manage yourselves? We’re trying to get away from the idea of is constantly being compared to some dinky boyband, so why the fuck would you think this in any way was a good idea? We do NOT want to work with you guys and your tight pants, dinky lip rings and Caramel hair got it?"
And to my surprise I was met by laughter, and Michael getting up from his seat and walking over to me, his face way too close for comfort and a stupid half grin on his face “You should’ve thought of that before you signed the contract babe”
If looks could kill this kid would be on the floor right now, I glared right back at him, returning his stupid smile “You have no idea what you idiots are getting yourselves into. We aren’t called the reckless for nothing”
A/N: I'm sorry it took so long to update, i procrastinate waaaaaaaay too much. But anyways, this chapter is basically just a filler, i needed something to transition over to the good stuff. i promise the next chapter will be worth it. x
Hannah's POV
"Laila what the hell was that?" The moment we stepped into our dressing room Emily stormed after Laila, clearly upset by what she had decided to say. Laila as usual wasn’t phased by it at all as she threw herself onto the couch happily munching away on a bag of twizzlers she had picked up from someone’s station.
"Em seriously just chill you can’t be mad at her for stating an opinion" I stepped in hoping to prevent another argument from breaking out. It seemed as if lately the two of them were always at each other’s throat, for whatever reason. Emily let out a loud sigh, rolling her eyes and taking her seat on the opposite side of the room before deciding to speak again "If we get in trouble for this Laila I swear"
Laila took another bite of the twizzler in her hand before slightly spinning it around, using it as a pointer “What can they do to us? Absolutely nothing, so I don’t like the little boy band of theirs big fucking whoop.”
"She’s got a point there Em, I mean we’ve got a contract and everything. Plus Hannah and Laila have done much worse than this before" Sylvia said with a small grin as she raised her eyebrow in our direction while Laila and I exchanged glances with huge smirks on our faces.
"Ugh" Em threw her head back, a sign that she had finally given in "fine, but don’t forget we have a meeting in a bit and if they mention anything about it, don’t say I didn’t warn you"
"Emily, come on, Laila and Sylvia have gotten away with leaking Wesley Strombergs nudes for crying out loud, do you really think they’d give a damn about us not liking some boys?" The two of them exchanged glances at the mention of their past drunken slip up, of course in their defense though they weren’t complete nudes, I mean all you really seen was his ass, and god what a nice ass it was. The thought of the incident made me crack up, once I finally stopped laughing I looked up from my phone only to realize that the rest of the girls had already left the room and were halfway down the hall.
After almost tripping over my own feet, arguing with Sylvia over who got shot gun and a fifteen minute ride of Sylvia and Laila practically screaming old spice girl songs we finally arrived to the Capitol Records building. As usual the second we emerged from the car flashing lights went off non stop. Stupid paps were always waiting outside the building in hopes they’d catch a glimpse of someone, anyone really. We all gave small waves, apart from Laila who had a reputation for flicking them off, before proceeding into the building. After cramming ourselves into an elevator with about eight other people we finally reached our floor and practically stumbled out of the doors. And just my luck I stumbled right smack into someone which sent me flying backwards causing a loud “Fucking hell” to come from my mouth.
"Oh shit I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there." I looked up with confusion at the sound of a strong accent and a hand held towards me. Hesitantly I took his hand, and he effortlessly pulled me up from the ground. I quickly dusted myself off "Sorry, sometimes I just forget how to walk" taking a step back I finally got a good look at the boy, he was well over six feet and had chocolate brown eyes and dark hair, if I didn’t know any better I’d almost say he was Asian, he had a huge smile on his face which almost instantly caused me to smile right back, just as he opened his mouth to speak he was automatically cut off "Hannah get your ass over here" Laila poked her head out from the office that we had our meeting in, and when I turned back around he was gone.
After I had joined the rest of the girls in the meeting room, I couldn’t help but letting my mind wander to that boy, his had such a nice smile, or maybe I was more interested in how nice his lips looked. And the same time though, I couldn’t help but feel like I had seen him somewhere before.
"Hello? Earth to Hannah" A jellybean bounced off my head earning Laila a confused look "you’ve practically been drooling on yourself for the past five minutes"
"Oh shut it I have not" I rolled my eyes taking the cup from the table in front of me, just as I went to take a drink my phone buzzed in my pocket. Quickly I pulled it, clicking through my notifications, a total of three hundred and twenty something people had followed me in the last hour, curiously I scrolled through my recents follows, randomly clicking a few follow buttons along the way. Just as I was about to exit out a little blue check next to a particular follower caught my eye, clicking on it I noticed the icon looked strangely familiar; just as I was about to enlarge it Victoria walked into the room.
Victoria had been our manager for about the last year and a half, just around the time people actually started to take us seriously as a band. She was about twenty years older than us and had short black hair, at first glance she looked as if she had a heart of ice and would eat you alive if you ever looked at her wrong but once you got to know her you found her to be the exact opposite.
"I’m surprised to see you all wide awake today" she joked, taking the seat at the end of the table before pulling out a folder full of files. "First things first, let’s talk about the interview" The four of us quickly looked around at each other, neither one of us wanting to be the one stuck explains the whole situation. Emily threw her hands up in the air "I already told you three I’d have nothing to do with this"
That left Sylvia and Laila looking to me to pick up the silence, I threw my head back letting out a sigh; no matter what these two did I always had to find a way around it. “We were just being honest is all, I mean isn’t that what you taught us to do? Be ourselves you said don’t let anyone change who you are. And that’s what we did”
"That’s what I figured" a simple laugh and shake of her head was all she had to say in reply; I think over the year she had come to learn that there was one thing you couldn’t really do, and that was try to contain us. "Now on to more important topics. As you know the end of your two year contract with Capitol is next week, you girls already agreed to sign with us yet again. Which we couldn’t be happier about. However, we’ve been made an offer this morning from one of our side labels."
"Side label?" Sylvia questioned, the look of confusion on her face had to of matched every single one of ours.
"Yes, a label within a label basically. But any who; A new up and coming label would like to sign you as their first major artist. Now the boys who run this label are greatly familiar with the the industry and I wouldn’t recommending this to you if I didn’t think itd be good for you"
As usual Laila was the first to start questioning the sudden want for change “What exactly is In it for us though? I mean at least with Capitol we know we’ll be safe”
Victories stood from her seat and began walking around the room ” the boys have promised complete artist control, which means no one will be able to tell you what, how or even when to say anything.”
The four of us looked between each other, over the years that we’ve known each other the one thing we had gotten down was being able to have full conversations with nothing but eye contact and facial expressions. After about five minutes of mixed expressions and a few unsure head nods we all decided on an answer.
"Complete control of our band right?" I questioned, I was almost sure the uncertainty in my voice was beyond noticeable.
"You’ll be calling all the shots. All they’ll do is guide you through the process." We looked to Emily, knowing she’d be the one to make the right decision for us, she was the reason we got our shit together and if anyone had our best interest in mind it was always Em. She sat there for a second, a puzzled look on her face as she bit her bottom lip in concentration. After a moment of silence she hesitantly looked up, nodding her head just slightly "Alright, if you think it’s what’s best for us them we’ll do it"
Victoria reacted with a huge smile as she happily passed around contracts to each of us, waiting patiently as we all signed our names before handing them back to her. “Well, congratulations girls; you’re now signed to Hi or Hey Records.
