I know Kodaka was fishing for some kind of compliment on his controversial V3 ending ā he's even mentioned before that he had to poke and prod and pull to get people to give him their reactions to Chapter 6 in particular. And y'know, that's probably because of how bugnuts and controversials. But even so, you know what? I'll give him some compliments.
Making some of those shocking endgame reveals be lies was a bold choice that virtually guaranteed a lot of people wouldn't "get it." I can't exactly blame them; I definitely wasn't sure what was real and what wasn't upon my very first analysis. It just seemed like the entire climax rendered so much EXTREMELY dubious that the possibilities were vast. But as we now know, Kodaka later made it pretty clear that SOME things were definitely meant to be lies. And regardless of how clear that is or isn't when you play through it, I think the fact that the last chapter serves as this litmus test for how much attention you've been paying to the details of the story is actually very cool.
I think it's neat how we cycle through playing from the perspective of all our survivors at that point. That was a cool touch.
Honestly, the way the fourth-wall breaks keep piling up felt so insane as to become hilarious after a while? I couldn't stop giggling as I played through Chapter 6 for the first time; it's SO nuts, and they take it SO far. The comments coming from the viewing public are particularly hilarious. "Sakura is my muscle waifu" and whatnot. :P
It takes the bold step of feeling very FINAL for this profitable, beloved series. It feels like it we've reached a very definite conclusion, even if said conclusion happens in a different universe/reality from the other games. (And yes, we all know that no profitable/known IP ever truly dies; since then, we've gotten Danganronpa S as well as various other hints at a future for the series. But the fact that we've gone even THIS long without a true new game is both surprising and a little impressive. .... And also, if you're insatiable like me, disappointing. But that's another matter.)

The drv3 killing harmony ending is really controversial so this is my take on it (spoilers ahead)
I think of it as like, everything did happen in that universe but just a rlly long time ago. Ik canonly there isn't a big time gap but I think of drv3 being fictional in-universe as "this horrible thing happened years ago so we made a fictional re-enactment" kinda like the shows about Henry viii's wives and stuff like the crown yk?

Idk if this makes sense but that's how I think if it because if just the killing games were fictional then what about udg, and all of drv3? And if it was ALL fictional then I think there would've been more drv3 lore as well.
Since the characters in the other games overlapped quite a bit (the dr1 survivors popping up in udg, everyone being in dr3 except for the drv3 characters, dr1 characters being in sdr2) but there is no interaction with them and anyone in the third (main) game.
I think that's because the first two games + udg and dr3 do happen in this universe and then, hundreds of years later, the world is fixed and everyone is pretty over it. It becomes well known enough that someone writes a show based on it and then it becomes popular enough for multiple seasons which eventually our characters sign up for.
And its not really unlikely for stuff like this to happen, we have a film about people falling in love on the titanic, we have billions of shows and films about hitler and the holocaust, there are shows about serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy, and how often do you hear jokes about 9/11?
Stories about genocide and wars always get very popular very fast and I don't doubt that 'the tragedy' and the killing games would be so well known, like they'd learn about it in schools and everything, it was a huge deal in-universe.
I've thought about this a lot (as ik most drv3 fans have to) so this is one of my main drp headcanons lol, enjoy!
I am formulating an ending where everyone lives and it was vr and the virus is cured but the meteors and a lot of the memories werent real and that it was for an audience and hopes peak still exists just so my ships can live happily ever after and go to college and have families and stuff
Things that donāt make sense in Danganronpav3 (MAJOR SPOILER WARNING)
I know danganronpaĀ in general is ridiculous and has no logic, but these are more plot-hole things I noticed vvv
1. Why is Kaede so surprised here? There was probably a DR logo on the van so people in the area wouldnāt freak out, so she would have seen and recognized it. But, Kaede wanted to be in the killing game. Why is she scared? I know that the player doesnāt know any of that information yet, but still.
2. How does no one realize what is going on during the prologue? Theyāre all supposed to be fans of the show, right? Kaede has some lines that make you think she knows something, but everyone elseā¦
TheĀ monokubsĀ ask if they have ultimate talents and everyone was likeĀ āno..?ā Like shouldnāt that have rung any bells??
Ā If they are supposed to be their outside world selves in the prologue, why would the monokubs go over this? Everyone should know that thatās not true, because they should all remember signing up and know that they are just regular people. The gang forgets about this anyway, so what was the point of bringing it up?Ā
3. This canāt be possible if weāre sticking to what Tsumugi said. The game continually brings up her cospox, but if the cast is fictional, why did Tsumugi get cospox from dressing up as Kaede? According to her Kaede is a fictional character. If we say that sheās lying about this condition, then this whole reveal is basically false, because the only reason Shuichi came to the conclusion that everything was fictional was because of this stupid cospoxĀ rule. Another thing I noticed is that technically, Tsumugi isnāt actually cosplaying as the Dr1 and Dr2 cast. Look at their eyes, none of the characters have theĀ āV3ā³ in their eyes. So, if you want to look at this small detail as a loophole, Tsumugi isnāt actually cosplaying as the characters, sheās cosplaying as the casts with weird V3 symbols in their eyes, which could be seen as a fictional version of the character. This is kinda pushing it though lol.
4. What is this? How does this make sense if this is all fake and itās a tv show? Whoās speaking? Did they just cast extras to deliver a vague speech? The audience already knows this is all fake, so what is the purpose of this? This would be people thinking the ultimates are dead because of the ultimate hunt, but apparently none of that is true, soā¦?
5. Shuichi uses this as a way to prove that there is a mastermind, but thatās not what Monokuma actually saidā¦
This could have just been a translation error, but if they came up with their entire plan based on this one little detail and Shuichi was wrong, that could have been very badā¦
On the flipside, if we count this as a translation error and assume that Monokuma was supposed to sayĀ āforcedā, thenā¦none of them would have died.
They all willingly signed up for this, remember? If Monokuma was true to his word, since he and the Monokubs spend the whole game hammering into our heads thatĀ ābears do not lieā, he wouldnāt have actually killed any of them. Now, you could think that he would have just ignored this and killed them anyway, but I donāt think he would. They have an audience, remember? Who would want to watch a killing game where no one kills anyone and they all die in like 3 days. Ratings would be terrible lol. In all honesty, he probably would have just been likeĀ āHaha, I was kidding!ā and continue to keep them trapped there, but a murder would definitely be less likely to occur. Kaede could have probably rallied them all together and try to figure everything out.
6. This is definitely a translation error since itās mentioned in the original, but Shuichi is refrencing a fact that is not in Kokichiās motive video or in the truth bullet you use in the localized version. The game has not mentioned the fact that DICE forbids murder and that itās their second rule up until this point. So basically, to someone who isnāt familiar with the original it looks like Shuichiās just pulling this out of his ass lmao.
See? It never mentions that the group doesnāt allow murders.Ā
7.This isnāt completely true.Ā āMahiruā says after this that their personalities were created by the flashback light, but thatās not true. In the prologue, we can see that everyone generally acts the sameā¦ The personalities that we see ingameĀ still resemble their personalities from the outside world. Even with the ones that seem to be changed the most still have elements from their outside world selves. For Kaito, they turned his aggressive murderous side into an aggressively positive one, for Kokichi, they took his sensitive side and put a mask over it, and for Shuichi they kinda just..removed his danganronpa obsession since heās still very shy and anxious.Ā āHifumiā probably just said this to make the remaining crew feel despair. (Thereās still hope for your faves my dudes.)Ā
8. Danganronpaās pretty much ignored all sense of logic at this point, butā¦how is this possibleā¦ They can create memories but I donāt see how they can control literally everything that happens in the game. Reality TV doesnāt work that way. They gave them personalities, and saidĀ āokay go playā. Itās free reign from there. Itās up to the gang what they want to do with the roles and personalities they have. I can understand how they could give Kaito an illness, but not give Maki feelings?? For someone she didnāt even know yet?? Tsumugi also said that āeverything has a writing creditā, but theyāre not reading off of a script?? Someone canāt be in charge of every single thing they say?? I get that itās supposed to be like āhaha look they mentioned the writersā but if weāre talking about the game how would that even work?? This ending is so fucking weird and makes absolutely no sense ugh
I donāt see how they could create romantic feelings for someone to have that develop over time. They probably saidĀ āLiterally everything was a lie!ā To make the remaining cast feel despair.

You know what would have made the Danganronpa V3 ending way better?
If Tsumigi said in response to Shuichi:
"Of course this world is fiction! The blood is fucking pink, what did you think that was normal? Some detective you are, I should have written you better."
So the whole thing is fucked already but I can't help but think about how throughout the whole game there were references to real world things, which essentially dates the game. DR3 also dates itself with references, the same references even. There's no way that people watching season 53 would understand the references made way in the past. So this really may discredit Tsumugi's bullshit.
This puts all of DR in a reasonable timeline, not 53 fucking seasons. Instead, the whole point was to put us in the deepest despair that they could, and it honestly worked because everyone is split with this ending. I don't think that the years of work they put into the series would just be cancelled out like that. There's no way. But there's also no way of knowing for now.
