A drummer is known for his skill and gear. And the hard rock/metal genre does not have many great drummers because of its demanding nature. But among the few great ones is Nicholas Bowen “Topper” Headon. This is one of the most reputable sticksmen in the history of drumming.

Often, it’s guitarists and vocalists who stay under the light to be seen. Drummers stay in the background with their instruments. Headon is one of the drummers who defies this seemingly ‘natural’ order of things on the stage. When he is holding the sticks, he makes sure everyone notices what he is doing. It is as if his drums “send personal messages to the audience, telling them to listen.”

There are very few people who understand what it takes to be great when it comes to drumming. And Martin Lopez is one of them. Born on May 20, 1978, the Swedish-Uruguayan drummer has been making his way steadily into the world of fame. He is currently a member and co-founder of progressive metal supergroup Soen. But he is best known for his work with the Swedish progressive death metal band Opeth melodic death metal band Amon Amarth.

Both groups are known for their incredible tunes and contribution to the world of heavy metal drumming. Martin Lopez was born in Sweden to Uruguayan settler parents before moving to Uruguay and back.  He has worked with a wide range of bands on a large collection of albums. What makes the drummer different is the way he deals with speedy songs. He joined Opeth in 1997 from Amon Amarth.

James Shannon Larkin is not a new name in the world of heavy metal drumming. The American drummer was born on April 24, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois. His major-label band was Wrathchild America. The band was initially called “Wrathchild,” but there was already a British band with the same title. This forced them to change it, adding “America” to the title. And that is how “Wrathchild America” came to be. 

Staying relevant in the music industry for an extended period is never a joke. Chris Adler is among the new millennium’s drummers who have been relevant for the shortest period that he has played. Many people imitate him, which makes him an influential extreme metal timekeeper. 

Richie Hayward drummed for the surrealistic band Little Feat, for a very long time. He often tended to play over, under, and around the beat, trying to find the perfect match for every song.

“I don’t believe a drummer can have only one playing style.” 

Richie Hayward once said. “I mean, drumming is so wide and fans that you always find new ideas, even within the simplest things.” And it is the same idea that drove Hayward into creating some of the most incredible songs of all time.
