If you don’t have this transcription handy I can pretty much guarantee you’ll lose your bearings during the intro of this song and may not regain them until halfway through the verse (you can find the transcription in the July 2011 issue of DRUM! Magazine). This groove and the guitar part sound like they’re in an odd-time signature but they aren’t. Dino Campanella accents the hi-hats very heavily on the eighth-notes but is usually ghosting the e’s and ah’s between them. The heavy dose of compression on the room mikes helps make the drum groove pump.
