I had a really bad day jesjjs

but also because what if drift only joined the autobots as a means to an end? what if their rebuilt friendship won't last during peacetime? what if drift leaves again?

rodimus left to explore cybertron before he found the answers to those questions. he ran from them and from iacon, and in doing so, he ran from drift.

and drift is PISSED, because HE thought they were doing better, that they were on their way back to something normal. it was never going to go back to how it used to be, he knew that, but he thought they could get close to it at least.

it isn't a big blowout argument when rodimus comes back. it's a quiet, tense, terse conversation, and anyone who's had one of those can tell you how much worse they are. rodimus answers vaguely and only half-truthfully until drift grabs him by the arm, looks him dead in the eye, and asks "why did you leave me behind?"

and rodimus remembers feeling left behind in the ashes of nyon, searching for drift (or his corpse) for days, not knowing that he was already gone, before he was picked up by an autobot patrol. and he breaks.

he pulls drift off to somewhere more private and tells him all the horrible thoughts he had when the war ended. it's like pulling teeth, but he gets them out. just as the silence is starting to suffocate him, drift hugs him. and says "i told you i was never going to leave you again, and i meant it."
