Messy situations have become your thing, especially when you know someone like Nick Burhardt.
âSeriously! You didnât say she was a Hexenbiest!!â Wu called.
Nick grunted when his body hit the wall, the woman standing in front of him grinning widely.
âIt didnât really come up.â Nick groaned, trying to pick himself up off the ground.
This particular case led to a Hexenbiest who was getting back at some exes the old fashion witch way.
Death.
When the third body popped up they finally made the connection. Now theyâre in the house of one Carol Fletch, trying not to die.
She changed back when she saw them stumbling to their feet. Hank was at least five minutes away.
âGonna try that trick again Lycanthrope?â Carol teased.
Wu frowned, still feeling the pain in his abdomen from the rough hit heâd taken when he woge to retaliate. It was clear that he would need to gather himself before he tried again. He was a bit battered from being tossed around. Sheâd basically been playing ping pong with their bodies.
âI thought a Grimm would put up more of a fight.â She challenged.
âWe do.â
The voice made them all look up, and she gaped when you dropped from the ceiling right onto her body. She barely got a word out before you forced what looked like an arrow into her shoulder.
Her back hit the ground with a harsh thud and your legs were planted on either side of her hips as she writhe against the ground. She woged and when she lifted her head to growl at you, you punched her square in the face. Her head dropped back.
Unconscious.
You grin, stepping off her body. Nick and Wu just stare.
âHow the hell did you get up there!!!â Nick asked in disbelief.
âWhile she was smacking you guys around I decided to test a spell Adalind showed me. She told me about the little Hexenbeist situation so she thought it would come in handy.â
âYou told Adalind but you didnât think I needed to know!â Wu complained.
âWell, she is my wife.â
âThat just fixes everything.â Wu grumbled rolling his shoulders.
âToss me the cuffs.â Nick nods, unhooking his as he throws it. You caught it, kneeling as you pulled the arrow out of her chest, pushing her onto her stomach as you cuffed her hands.
âThereâs a tranquilizer in the dart, so sheâll be out for a while. â
âAppreciate it.â Nick thanks as he slides out his phone to make a call.
Extra officers seemed necessary given the hell sheâd put them through.
Once the mess is cleaned up, youâre happy to stick around. Trubel had also stopped by so of course you both decided to brush up on some practice while sheâs available.
Thatâs how Wu found the both of you.
Throwing punches, exchanging kicks. You were somewhat of an evened match. Trubel was a bit scrappy, kind of like you. It made for interesting matches. By the time you both take a break, you see Wu just standing there.
âNice moves.â
It sounds like heâs teasing.
âThink you can do better?â
He doesnât take the bait, not immediately. When Trubel looks at him, he starts removing his jacket and you grin. She can already tell this is another one of your ploys to mess with him, so she steps to the side.
âThis training will actually help you, Wu. You guys keep getting your butts kicked. Nick has his instincts as a Grimm, thatâs imprinted in him. But you, this recent change of yours wasnât always a part of you. You need to stop relying on it and tap into your cop side.â
With your fists lifted, you mark him. Wu follows you closely with his eyes. He should have known it would turn into a lecture. Trubel is currently unwrapping her gloves.
âIâm gonna grab a drink.â
You nod as she heads up the stairs. Having a mini gym in your basement was a great investment. Almost as good as your little office in the attic for all things Grimm. Behind a hidden door of course. No way would you make it that easy. It paid to be careful.
âAre we going to keep talking?â Wu challenges.
You smirk, charging at him. The first punch you fire he blocks easily, but the other two, heâs not as successful. He catches the second and barely blocks the third.
His body jets back and you grin when he tries to gather his footing quick enough to dodge your kick. It connects with his shoulder and he tumbles on the mat.
âLooks like youâre all talk, Sergeant.â
He jumps to his feet and youâre a bit impressed at how easily heâd balanced his weight to push him upright.
âGood core strength.â
âAnother sarcastic quip?â
âYou know thatâs not my thing Wu.â
Heâs still watching you like a hawk. You assume heâll make a careful attack, but he throws caution to the wind and just goes for a tackle. You grunt at the collision. Dodging had been out of the question, so you settled for trying to block. Heâs stronger than you, thatâs no secret. Your back hits the mat this time and he pins both your wrists, grinning.
âWhoâs all talk now?â
You smile when you gather your breath.
âStill you.â
Wrapping your legs around his waist, you use your weight to throw him off balance. He rolls, and now youâre on top. Wu groans, opening his eyes slowly. You might not have the same physical strength, but youâre agile and nimble. With the right technique, you can take down a titan.
âReady to give up?â
Your hands settle at the sides of his head, eyes swelling with pride. If itâs one thing you enjoy, itâs teasing Wu. Itâs hard to get him frazzled unless heâs literally running for his life. You wait for a response, or even an attack, but you feel his hand lift, resting on the back of your thigh. You glance over at the touch, then look back at him in question.
âI guess I could be in a worse position.â
His statement makes you very conscious of said position now. Youâre both basically chest to chest. Your breathing slows a bit, and before you know whatâs happening, youâre getting closer. His hand tightens against your muscle and your breaths just barely mingle.
âWhat are you guys doing?â
You jump off him, and Wu looks up at Trubel who is standing there with an opened bottle in her hand.
âN-Nothing, just practicing. Iâm gonna grab a drink myself.â
Youâre on your feet in seconds, heart racing and it has very little to do with the workout.
Encounters like that seem to be frequent with you and Wu. Itâs a little unnerving because youâre used to being in control. The lack of power makes you very conscious of the fact that your feelings have just gotten worse for him. You canât control how you feel, maybe thatâs why it has you in such disarray or why you havenât really told anyone that youâre planning to move to Portland permanently.
Itâs not like youâre trying to hide it per se. It just feels so strangely definite. Before you met Nick, you were pretty much on your own. Like Nick, having a Grimm as a parent came with its challenges. You were orphaned at a young age. By the time you turned eighteen you pretty much had to fend for yourself.
That birthday came with a fund your parents had left you and a hell of a lot of personal effects. When you started seeing the monsters, that was pretty much when you realized the pictures in the books you inherited were more than just fairy tales.
Now it feels like you have a family again, and a purpose. Thatâs why itâs somewhat terrifying.
Still, you canât deny that itâs nice. Especially when you get to mess with Wu.
âSergeant, looking a little tired. Still sore from last monthâs scuffle.â
With Carol behind bars, they all felt more at ease. You were still gloating about how much theyâd gotten beaten up. You were sitting in Wuâs chair when he came back. No surprise there. You liked pushing his buttons.
âDonât you have a day job?â
âIâm on vacation.â
âYou take a lot of vacations. Are you sure they havenât already fired you?â
You smirk, sliding your glasses up.
âIâll have you know Iâm very adept in my field.â
Youâre ready for his retaliation, so you donât really expect it when he grips either side of the handles of the chair, pulling you forward slightly. The sound of the wheels rolling against the floor alerts you of the movement and you look up, gulping at the strangely seductive expression on his face.
âJust so you know, this librarian get up is actually very hot.â
Any quip you could form is stuck in your throat. Wu looks very pleased at the redness that rushes to your cheeks. Itâs not often that he has the upper hand. Subconsciously you cross your legs, if nothing more than to hide your excitement at his admission.
âSergeant Wu!â
The call from a fellow officer pulls his focus and he straightens, heading over to assist. Youâre unsure if you can truly stand at the moment. If anything you might need a bottle or water. Youâre very parched.
The days continue to rush by.
When it becomes prominent that you canât hide it anymore, Nick is the first person you tell.
âReally!â
He looks excited and Adalind looks up, curious. Youâre bouncing Kelly as you deliver the news.
âWhatâs going on?â She asks, moving to Nickâs side.
â(Y/N)âs moving to Portland.â
Sheâs now wearing a similar smile.
âOh thank goodness. Nick could really use your help.â
âHey!â
âItâs true. After that situation with Carol, I think itâll be nice to have another Grimm around.â
âActually, Trubel is thinking of sticking around too. So youâll get two.â
âEven better.â She smiles, leaving a kiss on Nickâs cheek.
You grin.
âBesides, we all know the real reason Iâm staying is for Kelly. Isnât that right you little cutie!â
You kiss his chubby cheeks and he giggles.
âWe should have a small party. The others are going to be excited.â
You shrug.
âI guess so, Iâm not doing anything at the moment.â
It might actually be kind of fun.
The second Monroe and Rosalee heard the news they insisted on hosting. Kelly and Diana were spending the night at Renardâs, so the rest of the squad was celebrating with you.
Hank and Nick were already three drinks in, telling some stories of past cases. Monroe was adding in similar instances where he got into some sticky situations with Nick. All in all, it was a great night. At some point you drift to the kitchen for a snack. Drink still in hand, you lean against the counter with a smile. You can hear their laughter and it brings you happiness. The type you werenât certain you would receive again in life.
You catch sight of Wu walking in. From the looks of it, he was searching for you. He moves to your side.
âI guess youâre sticking around then.â
You nod, lowering your glass with a smile.
âWith the trouble you and Nick get up too, I donât have much of a choice. Trubel is planning to come back too. She wants to be closer and I have a place here, so she could stay with me. I figured a transfer wouldnât be so bad. Portland has some good libraries.â
âSo thatâs the only reason youâre staying.â
Placing the glass at the side of you on the counter, you turn back to him.
âShould there be another reason?â You lift a brow.
Wu shrugs.
âI figured it was time for us to stop dancing around whatever this is between us.â
Heâs not wrong. Since that stakeout, youâve hung out more than a dozen times, but no one has brought up the topic. You were always running back to New York and Wu was usually helping Nick chase a criminal or wesen or both.
You canât deny that Wu played a part in your decision to move. It wasnât solely him, but all of them. Your family, they were here. Nick reaching out to you was the best thing to happen in your life. Youâd lost a lot due to your abilities. Being a Grimm always comes with risk, but now you have people you care about and you want to be there for them. Protect them. Itâs been a long time since you cared about people the way you do with these people. Youâre grateful.
âDidnât realize youâve been thinking about it so much. Canât get me out of your mind?â You tease.
You expect another one of his smart comments, but that isnât what you get. He takes a step closer and your smile drops when he partially cages you against the counter.
âI canât, but I guess Iâm the only one.â
Thereâs something very sexy about Wu getting all serious. It just makes you tingle. You lick your lips, the tinge of alcohol still present. Shaking your head, you swallow.
âYouâre not the only one.â
Itâs never been just him. Your entire reason for trying to get a rise out of him was purely a way to get his attention. You liked it when his eyes seemed glued to you, even though he usually had a disgruntled look complaining about you constantly trying to shoot him.
âThatâs good to know.â
Youâre ready for him to elaborate, but his hands slide against your cheek and he kisses you, faster than your brain has time to process. Your brows shoot up in surprise and he pulls back immediately after delivering the earth quaking kiss. You let out one breath, lips parted, heart racing. You should have a quip, some kind of comeback, but he leans in again and your hand scrambles to ground you, pressing into the counter clumsily. His body presses against you, tongue parting your lips. You moan, legs slightly quivering. You always thought that when this finally happened you would be in control, but Wu has taken the lead.
His hand reaches around, and when he lifts you off the ground, youâre stunned. Youâre now seated on the counter and you tremble when he lets out a low growl when you tug at his hair. You canât think straight, otherwise you probably would have known that getting it on in the kitchen of a friendâs house was not ideal. Your hand brushes your glass and it falls to the floor, breaking on impact, but neither of you react. Youâre too lost in the kiss. Your breathing is heavy and your legs keep him locked to your body.
âUhh..guys?â
You both pull away, surprised at the group thatâs now standing there.
Thereâs no way to make this seem like anything other than what it is.
âWhen did this happen!â Monroe looks completely lost. Rosalee and Adalind laugh. Wu steps back, helping you off the counter. Once youâre on your feet, you clear your throat, adjusting your clothing.
âH-Hey guys. â
Wuâs awkward words just prove what you both were just doing.
Hank just holds out his hand and Nick pulls out a twenty dollar bill, dropping it in his palm.
âWhat, you guys bet on this!â Wu asks.
âOf course we did. I thought she would either jump you on a case or at this party. I was right.â Hank responds triumphantly. He honestly shouldnât be surprised. He just takes your hand.
âWeâll be turning in early tonight. Enjoy the rest of the party.â He guides you away and you follow behind, still very much dazed.
âW-Where are we going?â
âBack to my place so you can climb me like a tree.â
You blush at the use of your previous statement. You had no idea he heard that. He just sends you a smirk.
Youâve obviously taken Wu lightly. Something tells you heâs going to get back at you for the constant teasing.Â
The most recent case required some extra hands. With Monroe preparing for triplets and Hank in a fresh relationship, nightly trips like this became a bit difficult. Heâd been following a trafficking ring run by Wesen. Currently he was crouched in a backroom with Wu, trying not to get discovered by the three Mauvi Dons outside.
The plan was either wait for the reinforcements or jump the three men and hope for the best. Nick took a breath, drawing his gun and Wu did the same.
âReady?â Nick asked.
âDon't exactly have a choice now do I?â
He couldnât argue with that. Nick clicked his gun quietly as they attempted to attack, but the grunts ahead made them pause. Yells of pain echoed and Nick briefly heard one of them woge, roaring, only for it to be interrupted by what sounded like a punch to the face. The sound was abruptly cut off. A minute of some more screaming and then the entire space fell quiet. Nick looked back at Wu who appeared just as confused.
âWhat the hell?â
Wu mouthed.
Eyes facing forward, Nick titled his head, trying to tune into the sounds. They heard what sounded like a blade being sheathed, then some steps. It took him a moment to realize it was coming from the back. He turned around the same time Wu did.
Wu flinched at the gun that was now pointed in his face. He swallowed, until the assailant removed their hood.
â(Y/N)!?â
You smirked, lowering your gun.
âHey, I missed you guys.â
âWhy is it every time we meet you always have a gun in my face!â Wu complained. You shrugged with a smile.
âJust one of those things.â
Nick shook his head with a laugh, walking over and hugging you. With a smile you returned it, patting his back.
âItâs good to see you.â He muttered.
You nod, pulling away as you holster your weapon.
âI took out the three idiots over there. Donât worry, didn't kill them, just knock them out. One of them has a nasty gash though, you might want to call the ambulance.â Nick couldn'tâ help the smile.
âThanks for the save. Trubelâs been occupied with maintaining the new HW. Didnât want to bother her if I didnât have to.â
âItâs alright, I gotcha. I heard Rosalee is pregnant. Thatâs awesome. By the way, howâs the family? Kelly walking yet?â
âYeah he took his first steps a month ago.âÂ
Nick pulled out his phone to show you the clip. Wu stepped forward, less than pleased that you both were acting as if there weren't three trained Wesen killers lying unconscious just ahead.
âNot to break up this little reunion, but Iâd feel much better when we call in the calvary.â
You turn.
âOh shoot, yeah youâre right. I should probably get out of here. It's going to be hard to explain what a librarian is doing with a gun and a machete.â
You laugh and Wu just looks unimpressed.
âTough crowd.âÂ
You joke, patting Nick on the arm.
âSee you guys in a bit.â You sneaked away and Nick just sent a look at Wu who had his arms folded.
âWhat?â
Wu just sighed, stepping out from their hiding space as he called for more officers.
It was crazy how your little partnership started with Nick. The books heâd obtained contained a lineage of Grimms, past as present. When he tracked you down you were convinced he was a Wesen at first. After a very heated fist fight, heâd finally got you to talk long enough to explain his reason for being there.
You were skeptical, but he showed you the books and weapons and you were excited. Youâd explained that youâd never really met another Grimm. Finding out there were more out there was a relief. Itâs not like you thought you were the only one, it was just tiring always hearing the gasp, then the woge, then the disbelief and screaming as a stranger ran from you.Â
It got tedious.
You shared your own little collection of the birthright that was passed down to you. Since that day you would help whenever you could. Your parents had left a small house in Portland. It was practically your second home. More so now that you have an actual friend.
You walked into the precinct the following morning with a smile, cute dress and a pair of spectacles on your face. Your entire get up was unsuspecting. From the outside you looked like a harmless timid librarian. The moment Hank spotted you he was smiling. Nick and Wu turned from their respective spots.
â(Y/N), I heard you were in town.â
He laughed, walking over and giving you a hug. You were smiling the entire time. Renard caught you as he was heading to his office. He slowed, and you pulled away, sending him a wave.
âI take it you helped last night.â Renard asked.
You pushed up your glasses.
âI have no idea what you mean captain. For I am nothing more than a quiet bystander.âÂ
You fluttered your eyes for effect. Renard shook his head with a laugh walking away and both Nick and Hank just smiled. Wu was the only one who rolled his eyes.
âThat damsel in the distress cover really is something.âÂ
He couldnât understand how someone who looked so harmless could be so dangerous. You grin, strutting over to his station, sitting on the edge of the desk as you crossed your legs.
âYou sound bitter sergeant, are you mad?â
âIâd be in a better mood if you didnât try to shoot me every time we saw each other.â
âOccupational hazard.â
He didnât buy it. He grabbed the files off the desk.
âIf youâll excuse me Iâm going to process our traffickers.âÂ
He stood, walking away and your eyes followed, smirking at the way his hips seemed to move with that belt that hung off his waist.
âYou should stop messing with him.â Hank offered.
âWhy, itâs so cute to watch him squirm. By the way, I heard you got a new girlfriend.âÂ
You poked him playfully and he laughed.
âSheâs just left on a trip. She's a fed. They caught a big case. Next time youâre in town you might get to see her.â
âSounds like a plan. So whatâs the next move? Iâm here for the next three weeks. Figured Iâd use some of my vacation days cause your case sounded serious.â
Nick nods.
âAs soon as we get those three talking weâll have the name of the guy in charge. Wuâs gonna be in charge of surveillance. If you want you can help him. Iâm waiting to hear back from Trubel about any connections on her side. Figured it couldnât hurt.â
âBetter safe than sorry.â You agree.
âLooks like me and the sergeant will be spending more time together. â Nick could already see the mischievous look on your face.
âNo trouble (Y/N), I mean it.â
You lift your hands.
âOf course not, scoutâs honor.â
âYou werenât a scout.â Hank interjected.
âExactly.â
That smile of yours was every indication for trouble.
Like Nick predicted, one of your traffickers had given up their bossâs name. After much encouragement of course. The presence of not just one but two Grimms was more than enough motivation. Now youâre in a car with Wu at night keeping an eye on the boss.
Much to Wuâs displeasure.
You flipped through a page of your book. Wuâs eyes were focused on the house.
âSo you still got that crazy Lycanthrope thing.â
âYeah, why? Are you going to try and take me out?â
âIf I wanted to youâd be dead ages ago.â
You just continued to read casually and Wu frowned.
âSee itâs stuff like that. You just threatened me!â
âYou asked a question, I provided an answer.â
You finally looked at him, adjusting your glasses on your face.
âItâs your fault if you choose to take it personally.â
âHow can someone not take something like that personally. If you didnât like me all you had to do was stay with Nick.â He stated. Your eyes scanned him for a second, closing your book.
âI do like you.â
The statement just earned a scoff.
âYeah, is that why youâre always pointing a gun in my face?â
Heâs just looking at you, waiting for you to say something else sarcastic. But you only slip off the glasses. He knows itâs just a prop. Your vision is fine. Itâs just helped with the aesthetic of your entire look. With they are gone, he gets a better look of your eyes that donât hold that normal aloofness to it. Thereâs a sincerity that catches him off guard.
âI like you.â
This time those words are somewhat of a whisper. Heâs not used to seeing this side. Heâs known you roughly a year and in all that time, the both of you had mostly exchanged words like before. But right now, itâs different. You shift in your seat, and he processes that youâre getting closer.
Your eyes shift to his lips for a second and he swallows, looking back at you in surprise. Heâs a bit stunned, because if he didnât know any better, he would have thought you were nervous. When you begin leaning in, he feels his eyes fluttering close. You lick your lips, and heâs sure youâre going to close the space. But something catches your attention from the corner of your eye and you turn abruptly. He jumps slightly, zoning back in.
âWhatâs wrong?â
You nudge your head.
The door to your crime bossâs house is open. Heâs standing there talking with someone and Wu hurriedly grabs the camera, snapping some pictures of the exchange before they both walk inside.
âWas that..â
You nod.
âPolice captain of the west precinct.â You confirm.
Looks like thereâs more to your little trafficking situation than a scumbag trying to exploit innocent people. Gathering what youâve obtained, you share it with Renard the next morning whoâs busy trying to get a warrant from the judge so they can search his property. Youâre seated at Nickâs desk. Heâs running through bank records. Hank and Wu are in the office with Renard discussing what the next steps are.
âVincent Barr. Thatâs our crime boss. He has quite the rap sheet, not to mention a pretty decent amount tucked away. Wu found some other offshore accounts connected to him. With this alone we can link him to the trafficking rings. Once we get the warrant for that captainâs place weâll have more than enough to put them away for a long time.â Nick states.Â
You hum, a bit distracted. Your eyes are still aimed in Wuâs direction. He steps out of the office, heading to a computer. Clearly on a mission. Once he gets there, heâs in a slightly bent position, eyes rushing over the information. You tilt your head, biting down on your lip.
âDamn..â
âWhat?â
Nick lifts his head to figure out the reason behind your words. You finally turn to Nick whoâs patiently waiting for an explanation.
âNick, has Wu ever said anything about me?â
He laughs, turning back to his computer.
âHeâs convinced youâre out to get him. Given how your last three meetings started, Iâd say he has a reason to.â
Well, heâs not wrong about that.
âIs he seeing anyone?â
âWu? Not that I know of.âÂ
Nick still appears oblivious to your line of questioning. Eyes glued to the screen.
âSo heâs single.â
âPretty sure." He mutters.
âThatâs good to know.â
âWhy, you trying to find someone for him?
âSomething like that.â
Nick looks up at that last statement, catching the way your eyes have moved back to said sergeant. For a second heâs lost. But he spots the subtle way your eyes run over Wuâs form appreciatively.
âNo wayâŠWu?!â
You nod,
âIâm going to climb him like a tree.â
Nick groans in disgust.
âI really didnât need to know that.â
âJust giving you a heads up.â
You stand without another word, making your way over. Nick just gets back to work. Heâs not getting involved in that.
âSergeant.â
Wu turns at your call.
âHey, did you hear, we just got the warrant. Hank and I are wrapping up to head over. Weâre gonna grab Nick.â
âSounds good. I guess when this is done I wonât really have a reason to hang around. You must be happy to hear that.â You say playfully.
Thereâs a subtle change on his face, almost like heâs evaluating something. Possibly all your meetings, or that conversation last night. He straightens, and you canât help but find the action attractive. Usually he has this sarcastic aura about him, but right now, heâs serious.Â
Focused.
âDid you mean it? What you said last night, or were you just messing with me?â
Most cases you would crack a joke and pretend that everything is within your control. But this time, that isnât the right approach. Youâd like to say it was just a heat of the moment thing, but that would be a complete lie. Thereâs definitely been an attraction, at least on your part. From the moment you met the snarky sergeant.
âI did. I meant everything that I said.â
Wu smiles.
âEven the part about popping me.â
You share his smile.
âEspecially that part.â
He laughs and you feel content now that youâre both at better footing. Wu turns briefly when Hank calls and you look over to see Nick staring at you. All you do is smirk, licking your lips as you nudge your head at Wu suggestively. Nick directs his eyes elsewhere awkwardly.Â
Currently rewatching Grimm, and I am once again struck by the fact that in s03e14 (where Wu sees the Aswang), Nick and Hank don't tell Wu about the Wesen. It never ceases to make me angry. Hank KNOWS how hard the transition was, and he's good friends with Wu, and he just follows Nick's lead? So what if he's a Grimm? He made the wrong call not telling Hank, and Hank thought he was going insane, but he still let's Nick decide? Hank had some really good points on why they should tell Wu, and I really think he was in the right mindset to be told. And why didn't Nick see that? Wu told them about his 'crazy' theory, he was obviously ready to start questioning things, and after he refrained from telling Hank and saw how badly it messed with him, you'd think he'd have better judgement this time around. But he just refuses to address it at all. The only redeeming thing is that he didn't tell Wu that he didn't see it like he had with Hank. At least he focused Wu on his friend instead of outright lying, but even so!
I am also disappointed that there is so little fanfiction that focuses on Wu, especially from this episode. I went looking for a Fix-it Fic after watching this episode, and NADA, ZIP, ZERO! Absolutely no fics for it that I could find. So now I need to write one, because seriously, how has no one else done it yet? This fandom needs more writers. Come join us, we have pie!
