Why couldnāt they do my boy better? š
I hated it but I loved it
Guys I canāt seem to be able to watch Parenthood anywhere which is so disappointing because I wanted to rewatch to truly talk about it. What I remember from the show is I hated half the characters and loved the other half. I loved Crosby, Drew, Hank, Amber, and Joel. I hated the grandma/mom, grandpa/dad, Kristina, and Adam. I had off feelings and pretty revolving feelings about basically the rest of the characters.
what I remember most is I loved Drew. I was mad about Drewās storyline. That I thought Max was betrayed so well by the actor. That Haddie really portrayed well what it was like to be a sibling of someone who needs more attention. I thought most of parenting was weird and seemly ineffective. So hereās the thing I mostly watched the show originally for the scraps of Drew we would get because I was so hoping they would work with his potential. Drew was 14 at the start of the show and he was the youngest of Sarahās kids. Drew was the āquiet good kidā as his sister was a ātroublemakerā. Drew however was also the kid that throughout the show clearly struggled with his emotions and would bottle them up. Drew was the character I feel the writers pushed to the side often in favor of Amber because she had spunk and was cool. She was the classic rebel. Do I hate all the writing? No. Do I definitely feel Drew should have gotten more story? Yes. They gave him a little more personality when he went to college but even then he really was just making out a girl and being his sisterās support. Now Drew has his moments where he got some time or attention namely when he ran away to his father or when he wanted to play baseball with his uncle. When he went to his uncle because he didnāt know how to dance for his school dance. Him having a breakdown over his mom seemly trying to replace them. Anytime his father is there.
I think Drew has his moments but they werenāt allowed to be a thing. His character was only used when useful and just basically as a clear obstacle in Sarahās love life.
Drew was the emotional kid which I appreciate as I donāt think we see that in media as often especially when the show ran of boys being the emotional one. Yet it seemed that the characters around Drew would call him emotional but also he didnāt have cry at every turn. He just blew up after a while.
The kid had some issues with communicating his feelings which I want to explore and look at more. I know some of the mystery of Drew is writing and just the creators not thinking Drew would be a big deal. The kid has something though that I think is worth learning.
Iām going to overthink about it more! Iāll be back with more analysis.
