The last few weeks of Khalom's life had been, without a doubt, the most miserable and infuriating of her life.
It had started when she and Notts first encountered those strangers. What had seemed to be a friendly meeting quickly devolved when Khalom found herself overpowered and captured. They hadn't killed Lucid, thank the Light, but with him captured along with her, Khalom was effectively trapped. And she didn't know where Notts was. That was the most troubling.
This hadn't stopped Khalom refusing to go along with anything they wanted from her. She snapped, she yelled, she insulted, she bit, she kicked, anything to fight against her captors. Oh, they certainly weren't pleased with her about it, if the dozens of knife wounds littering her body meant anything, but they also hadn't threatened to kill her or Lucid for her actions. Clearly, whatever these people wanted, they wanted a Risen as a slave.
They did have limits though, Khalom had discovered. She had spent the last day and a half bound and gagged for her latest attempt at bratty rebellion. Her stomach was ravenous with hunger and her throat parched with thirst. But if they thought they would break Khalom this way, they had another thing coming.
Footsteps. Khalom stiffened as her cell, such as it was, was approached. No one had come by since they tied her up and tossed her in here. She wondered if they thought she would be pliable now? Oh, she was going to show them...!
