May you please share us what art tools (both digital and traditional) that you use to create your artwork and comic pages. 😁
YEH!!!
So, for digital things:
Here we have a Clip Studio Paint EX ver. 2, ideal for professional comics and stories (which I purchased to draw my original manga). I'm thinking of upgrading to ver. 3 but 1) this is more than ok and 2) I have ver 4 on my iPad, so if I want something more advanced, I will do it on the iPad, save it in my drive and then continue from there on PC. I SUGGEST BUYING THIS ONE BECAUSE IT'S REALLY GOOD! WAIT FOR SALE SEASON AND YOU CAN GET THE BASE VERSION (Clip Studio Paint EX ver 1) FOR AS CHEAP AS 30$!!! ONE TIME PURCHASE!!! For mobile devices, they have monthly plans and the product is ALWAYS updated to the latest version! I have CSP EX ver 4 on iPad for 4,99$/month!!
The second important program I use is Adobe InDesing. "ADUAH WHY ARE YOU GIVING ADOBE MONEY ASDKFJHKLASJDFHLKAJSDFH" I know, I know, but InDesign is the only REAL complete program to lay out comics or books: it gives you all the shortcuts to make a job easier without compromising quality. I tried other programs, but they always missed some functions. I had to pay for it because my pc refused to install a cracked version... welp. BUT ANYWAY! Yes, I use InDesign to lay out pages and prepare the documents/books/comics for printing! I try not to use Photoshop, but sometimes I need to because it works well with InDesign. That one is cracked, tho.
As hardware, I use an old Huion GT-191 V2, a screen tablet that works very well for a cheap price! It doubles as a PC screen and a tablet you can draw on as if it were a canvas! The pen is pretty basic; it feels like drawing with a pencil! I've had it for 6 years, it still works well, and it has no scratches at all! It's pretty resistant!
While I'm out and on the go, I use an iPad Air from 2022 with a 10.9-inch screen and an Apple Pencil 2. My ex forced me buy it. Asshole move. But I'm glad I got it, because it has been my favourite companion for the last 2 years (and will be again soon, since I need to take this PC to a technician because it's making strange noises). Gotta admit, it's pretty cool and pen is FENOMENAL!! A good investment if you wanna make art your career! But that's the only Apple thing I'll get. And the screen is all scratched after 4 years. Yikes.
Unfortunately, I don't use professional pen and paper anymore for drawing traditionally, because I don't draw traditionally anymore. I don't have room in my house to keep things, so I switched to digital.
Now my setup is: cheapest pencil, cheapest eraser, cheapest sketch book. That's it. I sketch on paper, then pass it on to digital!
Many moons ago, I used Deleter Ruler Paper in B4 for comics and A4 for silly things. I used a Deleter G-pen and Deleter Black Ink 2 for inking. Plus various rulers and stuff. For sketching, I used Staedtler pencil lead 0.5 HB or 2B, depending on the sketch, and Deleter Light Blue pencil leads for the initial composition. The mechanical pencils were Staedtler, too.
I colored using both Copic Markers and Faber Caster colored Pencils. But I can't colour with Copics, lol.
And that's basically it!!! Hope this was interesting!

Pencils and colored pencils. They can be enough.

Hello! I didn't found any information about which app you use for drawing your characters, so could you please share which one is it that you currently use?? I'm also a beginner at digital art, so saying that I'm confused about all of this is an understatement, so any recommendation would be welcomed. 🫶
I currently use photoshop for character art but it is mostly because I have used it for so long and don't want to learn another program. But at this point there are many different programs people use for drawing - clip studio, procreate.
I attempted to switch to clip studio a while back and it's a really solid program - I just am way more familiar with photoshop and eventually crawled back to it due to the familiarity.
If I'm working on backgrounds or environment stuff, I will often go into clip studio because it has a lot of useful tools - like its perspective rulers and a wide array of useful brushes. I also think Clip Studio is a little more beginner friendly and it has so much useful resources from youtube tutorials to its massive brush and pattern shop to its integration of 3D assets.
I use photoshop still due to familiarity and just not wanting to learn something new.
I am not at all familiar with procreate beyond that it's for use on something like an iPad or iPhone - neither of which I currently have.
When it comes to hardware, since I don't use procreate and I draw on my computer, I use tablets from XP Pen.
I had one of these (an XP Pen Deco 03) for a long time and preferred graphics tablets because sometimes drawing on a screen gives me a headache so a device like this, which allowed me to draw while looking at my actual monitor was fine...
This was sufficient for me for years and is still a tablet I recommend to people; I still have mine and I still use it sometimes. I think XP Pen graphics tablets are great to start out on or are good for anyone who just prefers graphics tablets. They're also much less expensive than something like an XP Pen Artist Pro (which is what I use now - and which did, in fact give me headaches when I just got started with it and sometimes even now).
If you haven't done any research on drawing tools and you intend to draw on a PC or laptop rather than something like an iPad, I really recommend looking into XP Pen because I really like their products.
So yeah! I hope this helps!
If you have any other specific questions, feel free to message me with them. I'm always willing to help if I can!

Becoming my grandfather in one very specific way.
But also, embracing Big Pencil.
Public note to self: swap out refill lead for the right size
What tablet do you use for drawing?
I alternate between my iPad Pro and my XP-Pen Artist Pro 14!
I got this new tool which is a manual airbrush (or blow airbrush or mouth diffuser, whichever you prefer to call it) and just tested it with some ecoline and it worked exactly as I expected. It definitely needs practice, especially for the lungs ahah. But huge potential.
The splatter spots was pure ecoline (pastel red) and the more diffuse and smooth spots I diluted scarlet in alcohol. Alcohol helps diffuse and spread colour in paper. Obviously it will soak through if it's too strong a spot, just like alcohol markers. But this is definitely a great alternative to dedicated aerographs and very very cheap (less than 3€).
