Two earthquakes hit my country in Wednesday night, and the last few days have been an horror show. I live far from the epicenter and I’m ok, but there are around 50,000 missing people, and a death toll of over 1,700 that keeps rising as the hours go by.

My country was severely underprepared, and left without resources to deal. Citizens are working with their bare hands, without the necessary equipment or heavy machinery, because government aid is virtually zero (not to mention that they began to "act" nearly 48 hours late, and are now hindering the work of rescuers and volunteers, as well as the transportation of supplies in many areas. Citizens are the ones taking charge search and rescue, logistics, donations, etc.)

We’re on our own. We’ve been saving ourselves since this disaster began.

I’ve been working with a lot of people for the past days, organizing and sending donations with NGOs to help the victims and the search and rescue efforts.

We are barely beginning to grasp the full scale of the disaster’s magnitude. It has already over 72 hours, and there are so many places that help hasn’t reached yet.

I feel fcking useless. Part of my family lives there and they’re okay, but they have family and friends of their own who are still buried under the rubble and fighting for their lives.

If you want to help us, monetary donations are the most useful thing right now, because local NGOs and people on the ground can act faster to buy and deliver supplies.
