What are your favorite things about RWBY (you can add RG if you want)?
I mean, yeah, rosegarden, but i didn't get hooked on them until V8. And the only reason they hit me so hard was because I already loved and had been following the show since the Red trailer premiered.
It's hard to pick favourite things about a piece of media that you've grown up with and has meant so much to you, especially in subconscious ways, but... I like the story. I like the heart that just oozes out of every crevice of the thing. How sincere it is. I love the themes. I love that it's built on fairytale re-tellings in a way that is not only true to the source material, but actually innovates on them in a manner similar media often falls short with.
Also, while it's not the first time the comparison has been made, RWBY is a lot like a webcomic. It started with a small team who had a vision. Then, through sheer effort and a whole lot of luck, it became something much, much larger. From that first page where all the background characters are black cardboard cutouts... to Volume 9? That's insane. And it also been such an immense privilege to experience in real time.
Which is just... the legacy of the thing, isn't it? It taught so, so, so many people that a thing doesn't have to be good, it's just gotta get made. Whether that's the 3000th RWBY crossover fanfic, or an original story, or - as the Blacksmith teaches us - our very selves... You can create whatever you want, and when you do, you gotta make it your way.
