I'm so glad you enjoyed my art of Popp. Dragon Quest : The Adventure of Dai changed my world view, and saved me from a debilitating pessimism I didn't even know I had fallen victim to. It rejuvenated my love for fiction and my hope in humanity. BUT ENOUGH OF THAT LET ME TALK ABOUT MY HORSE PRINCESS THAT I LOVE AND WILL LOVE FOREVER

Interview with Yuji Horii, creator of Dragon Quest (Shonen Jump, March 2003, Viz Media)
The following interview was originally published in the North American edition of SHONEN JUMP, cover dated March 2003. The questions are pretty basic but they are educational for a reader that only knew of the series as "Dragon Warrior" back in that time. There's also a pre-release screenshot of Dragon Quest VIII included, so that's always cool. I uploaded these scans on my Twitter account back in 2020 but this will be a (somewhat more) permanent host for this interview. Enjoy!

I had a dream where someone wrote a fic on ao3 where Eight was a trans man who never knew that he was assigned female at birth and was confused when people tried to misgender him or force him to be more feminine. Though he and Medea still loved each other and hung out at the spring, did tons of cute things, and still got married.
But then there was an angry commentor who was like "HOW DARE YOU PUT WOKE STUFF INTO DQ! THIS TOTALLY ISN'T CANON!!!" like its a fanfic dude calm down
