the 2D-HD remakes really are something because while you're playing them they still feel ancient, like truly they've just been shined up a bit from the 80s, and the animation is very limited pixel animations to the point you're mildly surprised there's an actual hug animation, so you're watching the cutscenes like yeah yeah the same black screen with a sword cut animation to convey the speed and action and whatnot—
and then at the end of the game you just fucking STAB the big bad. you lunge for him and drive your sword into him so fucking hard you both slam back into the throne as you drive it to the hilt and wedge it into that garish fucking chair, and you're like "OH MY GOD!!" because 30-40 hours of playing had lulled you into a false sense of complacency.
