john keating is god's strongest soldier because imagine hearing "riddle me this" at the ass crack of dawn every day for several months and knowing your circus monkeys (the dead poets) are about to present the lengthiest and most incoherent cases known to man on why their grades should be raised

oh your storyline is an allegory for conformity/queerness? and you're doomed by the narrative? wowww that's crazy. should we tell everyone? should we throw a party? should we invite neil perry.

someone at the function yells "who's that dark-haired boy whose photo you keep in your wallet?" and todd, cam, and meeks all stop dead in their tracks and slowly turn around

the dps boys have a running gag where whenever they're asked what their "poets society" is all about, they will without fail reply with "i just call it the society. just a glimpse into how much of a poet i am." whilst doubling over with laughter and barely being able to finish the joke.

mr. keating in a modern au individually emails the dead poets "you have attachment issues" without providing any context whatsoever. they're all awoken by the notification and the email they are met with has them bolting upright in bed, half awake, squinting at their phone like it's a foreign object, gears in their brains turning, overcome with dread, thinking "he knows. he can see right through me." panicked, keating immediately follows it up with "file attachment issues! under the assignment! whew i apologize for that. have a good night, boys!"

knox overstreet the typa guy to make a huge deal out of his friends sharing a kiss indirectly. neil lets todd have a bite of his food? indirect kiss. pitts uses the same stick of chapstick right after meeks does? indirect kiss. charlie attempts to play cameron's clarinet to tick him off so he does the same with charlie's saxophone in retaliation? just make out already.

a few months before neil's death, he jokingly—out of the blue—said during a society meeting: "you know, if anything ever happens to me, i grant you all permission to say 'i swear on my dead homeboy' and lie." cut to a year after his death, to the poets sneaking not-so-stealthily out of campus post-curfew and presenting the bouncer of a village pub a set of fake ids, and charlie reassuring everyone by saying neil was probably smiling down at them at that very moment.
