Sister Zen (@anyssaaav) is inspired everyday by her mom and grandma. “Both of them have taught me that with hard work and perseverance, you can achieve anything, and this is something that I’ve grown to live by. To start off, my grandma is almost 78 years old, and she’s still going. She’s traveling, she’s driving, she’s active. I definitely hope to be like her when I grow older. I never want to stop living. She tells me that she still has so much to see and I think that’s amazing. My mom on the other hand is the most dedicated, hard working person I know. Coming to America as a refugee and fighting with people who didn’t support her going to beauty school instead of “college”, she proved them wrong by opening up her own successful business, has been invited to be featured on TV shows, and has done hair for fashion shows. She’s also featured on stage to teach hair, and has shown her work across the nation. These two are both so inspiring to me and I can’t thank them enough for everything they have taught me so far.” -Anyssa ‘Zen’ Volarath Fall 2015
