While pregnancy produces physical changes, it also produces lifestyle changes. Your nutrition and exercise may need to shift in the coming months. Some lifestyle adjustments could be challenging, but most of them are manageable. Refer to Twentyeight Health for examples on how you may need to change your lifestyle while pregnant.
Healthy pregnancy habits: diet, exercise & safety tips for moms-to-be. Start prenatal care early.
Not All Cravings Are Safe
Yearning for a giant sushi roll? I wouldn’t recommend it. The Mayoclinic says, “Don’t eat raw fish and shellfish.” This is because harmful bacteria can be found in raw foods. Your body is more sensitive to food-borne illnesses while pregnant. So, even though those cravings may be strong, don’t risk the safety of you and your baby. I have personally struggled with this because I am a huge sushi lover myself. Substituting the unsafe cravings with a safer choice has been extremely helpful. For example, occasionally eating cooked salmon with white rice and sriracha mayonnaise has fulfilled that sushi craving for me. It may be a challenge, but it is possible to avoid those potentially harmful cravings!
Pregnancy-Safe Exercise
Maintaining an exercise routine throughout pregnancy can be beneficial for both you and your baby. Although, depending on your health, you may have to adjust the way you exercise. It is typically safe to continue the same workouts you have been doing prior to pregnancy, but this is not the case for everyone. I have had to lower the intensity of my workouts due to my heart overworking. Healthline provides light-intensity fitness routines that are specific to each trimester of pregnancy. Their workouts have improved my overall fitness during these difficult months, and I would highly recommend trying them!

Stay Healthy!
Adjusting my nutrition and exercise has been challenging at times, but what’s most important to me is keeping my growing baby healthy! When the cravings get strong or the workouts are effecting your health, try finding an alternative solution that satisfies you while still benefitting you and your baby. These minor lifestyle changes may be worth it in the end!
Have you recently experienced attending a funeral wake of a person – whether a friend, a loved one or an acquaintance? Do you practice this superstitious belief in making a stop over at a certain place after going to a wake? Or do you just go directly home?
“Pagpag” or “shaking off dust” is a superstitious belief most people (especially us Filipinos) would observe especially when visiting a funeral. This is often done by visiting a place like mall, convenience store or a gas station instead of heading home directly so as to confuse any bad spirits who are trying to make their way home with you or any guest. Another superstitious belief aside from “pagpag” most commonly observed is that guests are not allowed to take home any food served at the funeral wake. Just a few days ago (June 30 – Monday), I almost committed this mistake of not stopping by a place after attending a funeral wake of my former high school teacher and nearly decided to go directly home (due to the fact that it’s raining hard and I was already soaking wet and just wanted to change into my home clothes. Luckily, I brought an extra shirt with me before leaving home and heading straight to the venue of the wake.
