i absolutely adore the different android/maykr/human designs people make for VEGA however there's something so special to me about the cases where they don't have a humanoid body. the Fortress is their physical form, and fuck if that doesnt have some absolutely heartwarming/-wrenching implications. starting from the moment they arrive there - back on Mars, VEGA shut down with the understanding of inevitable destruction, yet they were awoken, and in a completely new system, too. what was it like, waking up in an unfamiliar body, adjusting to completely new senses, like learning a new language, like being able to hear for the first time, like learning to walk again? and to have someone intricately acquainted with what is new to them be their guide, patiently waiting for them to adapt to the foreign architecture, hands eventually letting go of the manual controls like a gentle encouragement? and then, much later, to become one with what their savior deems his home? to inevitably become his home? to be the one pointing the way forward but also always guiding back? to be known in ever-surprising ways, to have somebody unlock parts of their 'body' - aspects of their ever-complex being - that they would have never been able to see by themselves? to look outwards down to the furthest star and to be seen from the inside down to the smallest switch panel?
to be quite honest, it's a form of intimacy not many people talk of that i will never be normal about.

i haven’t drawn anything doom related in a while so here’s some stuff for my human!vega and cultist!slayer au
also some context for the comic page: the slayer momentarily forgets that he has a roommate living with him in the fortress of doom so he almost mistakes vega for a zombie or demon. luckily he manages to realize who it is just in time, but not without scaring vega half to death first rip 😫

when two gods, by nature their own opposites, decide 'we can still work together' towards a shared goal, through their blood and of others, against the odds, and against temptations of just staying where they are and remaining unchanging, when those two gods, light and dark, sword and shield, heart and soul and mind shared, decide 'fuck their expectations. we can be our own. we belong to ourselves.'
That was what the Slayer saw before falling into a deep sleep. Being so weak that he couldn't move when he saw the seraphim shutting him away in the sarcophagus, maybe it was what he needed... But for how long?
The world faded away.
In the darkness, a somewhat familiar voice sounded in the distance, gradually becoming clearer, like the sunlight as the sun rises. He couldn't tell how much time had passed.
"Slayer, Slayer wake up. I have got things to tell you."
The Slayer looked into the distance, admiring the view of Urdak from the platform he was standing on. The Father had commanded his followers to lift the lid of the Slayer's stone case. He had woken him up and teleported him here, to a hidden location where they could talk without being heard. Urdak had immense beauty, but the Slayer knew what laid beneath that image.
"I tried" said The Father, "I tried to warn them, I tried to keep them from seeking power, from going out of control while I hid. I left the people I trusted the most in charge, but they betrayed me".Doom Slayer sat down under a nearby tree, this was probably gonna be long."I've been reflecting on my own actions and whether they were necessary. I thought they were, in the past. I didn't kill the Dark Lord when I could because I feared what could possibly happen to the universe if the creator of everything died. Later, I disposed of my physical form and hid because if he stole my power, he would have sent everything into chaos. I suppose you think I should have destroyed him".
The Father was right. The Slayer thought that all the suffering, everything, would have not happened if the Dark Lord hadn't been alive. But he couldn't deny that his death had unexpected repercussions. Even now, his body felt weak. After some seconds pondering all of that, the Slayer looked at the ground and hummed in affirmation."
I said it when I was VEGA and I have to say it again; I have many regrets. I hope giving up any kind of physical form can pay for my mistakes" he said solemnly, but he stopped for a moment and his next affirmation sounded fond. "I knew you weren't going to give my life sphere to Samur."
"I wouldn't trust him with a snow globe, could break it to backstab you with it" the Slayer signed.
"I agree" the bluntness of this statement made the Slayer chuckle.
Finally, the Father admitted "The reason I woke you up was to thank you."
If the Father had a face, the Slayer would have looked at him after hearing that. Instead, he just rose his face again, catching the way some red leaves dangled from the tree.
"You saved me more than once and, although I still can't tell the consequences of your actions, I truly think you did the right thing. I was going to thank you by letting you get your well-deserved rest in the Tomb of Gods, but I thought maybe you'd wish something else."
"I don't want anything" signed the Slayer, "I did everything to make demons pay, stop them from killing people and destroying more families."
"I understand, but are you sure?"
"What do I ask for? Respect? Glory? There's people that worship me like a god and treat me like a leader, there are prophecies about me…" the Slayer paused, thinking about the battle in Inmora and his latest fight "In the end, that's why they helped me, because they respect me and know me, but I don't want more of that."
"Becoming who you are was a necessity, not your goal" said the Father, knowing what was on the Slayer's mind and summarizing it."Yeah."
"I've been in that situation too."
In his journey to complete his role, the Slayer had crossed paths with people who could seemingly read his mind and understand him without needing to say a word. VEGA was one of them, but he never expected him of them all to empathize with such a deep feeling. Seeing that the Slayer was taking his time to reply, the Father continued talking.
"Your desires don't have to be large. You can ask for something simple and mundane if that's what you want."
The Slayer took a deep breath... "I just want to go back to the fortress, play with my toys and read my books. If I'm not fully recovered in a few months, you can put me back in the sarcophagus."
"About that" said the Father, "the fortress is no longer operating, it's been three years since Samur abandoned it, but we could make it work again. There are generators in this area and I could take control of it again if you return the portable device you used to bring me here to its place in the fortress. Are you willing to do these tasks?"
The Slayer didn't answer with words, he directly stood up, decided to take on this new mission.
