Agender/Nonbinary. Sorry this is my TRUTH and I will stand by it forever. Years of having your humanity stripped from you and being referred to as only “The Slayer” or “The Beast” (that one especially…) would have to mess with your interpretation of yourself a little bit. He doesn’t think of himself as a man, or as anything really. He just lets people call him whatever they want because it doesn’t matter to him. Including the he/him pronouns. You could use she/her and he wouldn’t give a fuck.

Severe PTSD. He had it already early in his military career, but it went unnoticed then and just got progressively worse over time as more and more things started happening to him. He knows there’s likely something wrong with him, but he thinks there’s no point in acknowledging it or doing anything about it because he’s too far gone, and no one and nothing could understand what he’s gone through anyway. It’s not even that I think he wouldn’t want help, but rather that he thinks there’s literally nothing to be done about it.

Brain damage, chronic pain, trouble with fine-motor skills, and aphasia. Speaking is EXTREMELY difficult for him. Forming words, thinking of the right ones, and actually talking is taxing and exhausting to his brain and body more than he thinks it’s ever worth. To me, that’s the first half of the reason for his selective mutism, and the other half is just that he has nothing to say to these people. All of the trauma his body goes through has made it difficult to move in smaller, gentler, finer ways. His hands shake and his arms lock up when attempting to perform tasks that require a lot of fine-motor control, and it frustrates him. I think it’s also why he seems impatient and often smashes buttons when interacting with tech. It hurts to try and be gentle, and most of the time it doesn’t matter and he doesn’t need to be. He saves his gentleness for things he cares about.

It’s hard for him to focus. Part of it is just his personality, and part of it is the brain damage. He can’t really read like he used to anymore, and when he does, it takes him a very long time and it exhausts his brain. It’s frustrating for him, but he still enjoys reading and tries to push past it anyway.

Sometimes VEGA will read something for him out loud if he’s too tired. VEGA is always very pleased to do this.

He uses all manner of brace and compression devices. Socks, arm braces, ankle braces, legs, etc… He also likes using heated blankets and heating pads.

His anger is something he keeps on the battlefield ONLY. He refuses to let it bleed through and affect things or people he cares about. It’s shameful to him.
