my hc is that becky wants kids but knows it's not practical to balance parenthood with her responsibilities as a figurehead superhero. something tobey knows and is more resigned to because the notion of having a child kind of Scares Him (given he has, canonically, been a shitty robot father and, fanonically, probably had a shitty human father)
but tobey is eager to make his wife happy, so he labors in his lab for weeks on end, cobbling together something from his previous humanoid replicas (having based robots on both himself and wordgirl, it wasn't too hard to merge them into one being as if they were combining genetic material), a brilliant little masterpiece known as webster, who looks like a child and enjoys being doted upon and absolutely adores their parents, but is entirely self-sufficient with an encyclopedic knowledge and quick adaptability skills.
which ends up upsetting becky in a weird way since the main reason she wanted to raise a child was to see them develop and grow with age. which causes a clash and contributes to their irreconcilable differences.
but along the way they do actually end up having a biological child (via intense brainwaves and an egg of unexplained origins, because lexiconian biology is weird). unfortunately, tobey didn't fix all the bugs in webster's combined code, most glaringly, wordbot's violent sense of devotion. so tobey and becky have to keep a close eye to ensure webster doesn't decide their younger sister is actually a threat to their parents.
