05.17.1983Â - Mod Sonia
Today my assignment was to create a brochure about how amazing Oceania is and the remarkable facilities offered by the Party. I titled it âOceania, the land of dreams. Be a proud civilianâ. The brochure consists of pages of fabricated facts and altered photos. I wrote about the different programs offered by the government, like the Junior Spies, which âhelps monitor anyone who is disloyal to the Party, thus ensuring our safe environmentâ. As well as, multiple reasons why the people should love and thank Big Brother for the âincredible lifeâ he offers them.
My assignment is just one of the few things the Party uses to manipulate the people. Along with the use of fabricated statistics, propaganda, and telescreens. The Partyâs plan is to convince people that the environment they live in provides the best circumstances. With the establishment of this ideology, the Party ensures that the people will have no interest in rebelling, since they will remain satisfied with their lives. However, I believe that people are aware they are being brainwashed and have the desire to prevent it. The Party is not the only government who manipulated their people; during WWII people were also brainwashed. Adolf Hitler âused his persuasiveness to further himselfâ (Josh Wilmoth n.p.) along with the propaganda he used. The Party is using a similar approach as Adolf Hitler, as well as the constant surveillance through telescreens, to make sure that no one gains the desire to rise against them. The Partyâs manipulation of facts causes people to willingly accept the Partyâs lies.
The hope of an uprising is the only reason why I endanger my life by posting on Tumblr. Iâm optimistic that once people read my posts they will understand the Partyâs true identity, which will hopefully initiate a rebellion. Â

As the bell rings and students pile in the hallways, things can happen, such as bullying. In the hallway our urgent task it to get to our next period class, but some people stop some kids from getting to class in time. They are called bullies, mean kids who like to pick on smaller innocent kids. Bullying is a very bad thing that goes on in schools, especially in middle and high schools. We all need to put an end to this. Bullying has affected my life by hurt feelings, embarrassment and other students being bullied.
My life has been affected by bullies picking on me. Bullies are people who think they are better than all the other people. And want to make other students at school or anywhere else feel petrified or uncomfortable in a way. When I ride the bus I am always nervous that a bully will try to make me feel humiliated. Sucking it up seemed to be my only option. Intimidators would throw my school work down on the ground and say something mean to me causing badly hurt feelings. People have called me nicknames, injured me lightly, and offended my culture. Bullies are bigger kids just like us who like to pick on smaller students and they think that is amusing.
But I can do many things to stop bullying. For example, if I see a little kid being bullied I will try to break it up or report to a teacher or a staff member at school. Bystanders are wrong. If there is a kid watching bullying happen but doesn't tell anybody or do anything, that would not be the right thing to do. A bystander should speak up immediately about what is happening. Another way to stop bullying is by just walking away. When you do that, the bully wouldn't want to bully you. Also you have to stop and think. Don't just say something, you have to think first.

The biggest problem with bullying is the bystanders that are involved. The bystanders are the main forces of the bully that keep the victim from having a regular day. More people should help the victims. That way the bully would give up and the day would return to normal. One example is the Holocaust. The only difference was the other nations weren't against the Jews. Upstanders are the key answer to this problem and the world needs more of them than bystanders.
When boys or girls go up to peers and start making them feel bad about themselves it damages them and might cause them to commit suicide. It also damages the world. In public if this occurs over and over again it begins to influence others. I've been in this situation and want to end it. Like I said before I still have to endure these days but much fewer than elementary school days. By helping others and standing up for them when they are being bullied this world can get rid of this violence for eternity.

Many people can take steps toward the light, the light to end bullying by doing one simple thing. All you have to do is speak up and tell an adult. Don't get involved physically because you yourself can get dragged into the fight. One simple person can save someone's life even by just speaking up. It may be a little scary, and it may leave you thinking, âWhat if the bully comes after me?â but the risk is worth it. The best person to talk to is someone you can trust. With this, you can form a small private club of victims, that have been bullied, that are against bullying. Letting people know that even small insults meant as a joke can truly hurt someone's feelings. If one person stands up to a bully, just once, the person can feel stronger and more confident about herself.
As stated on bullyingstatistics.org, about 4,000 kids per year commit suicide and 160,000 kids stay home in fear of bullying everyday. You won't realize the paint until bullying happens to you, or someone your truly love and care for. So please just answer me this one question, âWill you step up and end the fight with, not words, but one simple action?â All you have to do is step up and reveal to people that bullying is just not right and is not socially accepted.
