La cascada de Iguazu
Went to another waterfall (Palisade) today (I guess almost yesterday?) with the family. Most of the “trail” was paved, so we called it a “spicy walk” rather than a real hike. The base of the falls was covered in scree, and Oreo had a blast romping through it. He’s my little adventure pug.
I was too much of a wuss to climb up the scree closer to the base myself. Honestly, even with Husband there, I was worried about my balance. Falling on dirt is one thing; falling on loose rock is another. I usually like to try to get in the water on treks to falls or near creeks, especially if I can approach the base itself and feel the falls spray. That’s okay though. It feels good just to be back out there.
I’ve also been really enjoying identifying the flowers I find along the trail, although my camera sucks at focusing sometimes (thanks, iPhone autofocus). I’m thinking about chasing not just waterfalls this summer but also wildflowers in general.
Heartleaf arnica (Arnica cordifolia), starry false lily of the valley (Maianthenhm stellatum), prickly currant (Ribes lacustre), wild strawberry (Fragaria virginiana), red elderberry (Sambucus racemosa), yellow columbine (Aquilegia flavescens), and even a large Matte Jack a shroom (Suillus lakei). All in about half a mile too.
You never know what you'll find down a FSR! So many places to explore here.
