Feminist, sexism, sexual misconduct allegations, and pedophilia.
So before I start on this post that I know that will be rained downed with hate this is my opinion which I have the right to and voice if I choose to. This is only my opinion and it is not to offend anyone. If anyone doesnât agree they donât have to read it.Â
As a woman I completely support feminism however, I believe that the current form of feminism is becoming a bit ridiculous. Itâs to the point of âmy way or the highwayâ type of scenario and I believe that it creating a huge division in people and donât thing this is the best way for it to be. Â I believe in womanâs rights but at the same time we as women have to remember there are some countries it isÂ
Illegal to even speak or look in a certain type of way. Women get arrested for the smallest things that here are normal. Places were women are mutilated or treated like leapers just because of their monthly periods. Women all of the over the world are dealing with this things and yet we are worried about the silly nothings of women characters in movies or getting involved in personal lives of people that we do not personally know and persecuting them just as women have been in the past which then just leads us to be just as people that made womenâs suffering worse throughout history. I believe in treating women fairly but then we as women have to turn around and treat everyone the same as well and set an example especially as mother figures.
In the past week I have heard allegations towards James Franco and Stan Lee. I do not condone any misdoings however in Stan Leeâs case this is a 95 year old man that just lost his wife and probably not doing well health wise. From experience peopleâs mental health go downhill with age especially with health issues and on top of that losing loved ones does make it hard on people emotionally and mentally. With James Franco and those allegations I cannot make sense of them personally. You have one that was in a relationship and many students coming out stating wrong doing. For the each of them I canât imagine not taking the proper steps. If you are in a relationship with someone forcing you to do things you leave. I know itâs not easy because Iâve been there but you have to leave and you have to speak up about it as soon as possible due to the fact this individual can move on to other relationships and harm another person. As for the students that is something that should have been taken up with the school and ones that were on set and were made to do uncomfortable or uncalled for situations there is a union for actors and also the media as well. The fact that some of these girls said that they had to for their careers is inexcusable to why you wouldnât speak up. Iâm sorry but my career is not more important than my wellbeing. And there are measures in every school to protect yourself as a student and if the school doesnât take action than you push forward with other options.
I am a big fan of many actors some that recently have come into the line of firing with allegations of sexual misconduct but no matter how much I like an actor because they are famous I would never take or do anything that made me feel uncomfortable. There is just no way. I donât understand why everyone jumps to conclusions as well before hearing both sides and getting the facts on top of analyzing every little thing done it those peoples past. I understand how it is to be in a situation where I was a victim of some sort of sexual misconduct I wish that when it was happening I had a way to speak up but Iâm a nobody that didnât know it was ok to speak up, I do now though because Iâve had to learn how to speak up in general for myself. However, I think that it is a more common practice in general for people and especially women to speak up now which is why Iâm more than a little confused. If all the actresses had come out in the 90s together and spoke up against Weinstein I believe it would have been the biggest story of the 90s bigger than Clinton and Monica. It would have set a tone in Hollywood and everywhere that it was not ok. I think it is empowering that people are speaking up but why not sooner? And then there is the question, for me, why arenât we looking at Hollywood in general? Obviously if there are so many of these cases coming out now, itâs a common practice. Why arenât we trying to change the standards in Hollywood, and why arenât we looking at the fact that actors can be going into this industry with good intentions and learning common behaviors because itâs the ânormâ just like victims of sexual abuse can be groomed so can people in general be groomed to think these kind of actions are normal to do. Â At the same time we are creating this witch hunt type of situation because we donât know if every person being accused actually has done something wrong but why arenât we doing things for past as well. Â
Corey Haim and Corey Feldman were sexually abused time and time again and it was a known fact that it was going on and nothing was done. In return we have Haim that went into a downward spiral over it and itâs sad that a child was affected in a way that his whole life was ruined. Feldman also had things happen in life because of not only the abuse but his parents as well and still no one did anything. For years Michael Jackson was being abused and it was well known and no one stepped in and he was affected in the long run because of it. Â We are looking at Francoâs past indiscretion with a 16 year old when Elvis had Priscilla living with him as a teenager or Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin. We act offended but this things have been going on for years with no one stepping in and now that it is being brought up, how about bringing up the fact that these things have been ignored for years and years. And touching on kids and abuse why arenât we speaking about the many children that get abused or kidnapped and put into sex trafficking. What about Johnny Gosch? What about all the kids that went missing around that time? There was a clear lead and yet nothing was ever done. What if the rings that they ended up in are indeed controlled by high power individuals? Is that why we do nothing? Why arenât we as a whole doing anything? As a parent I would track my child down and the person that did it and God help those individual(s) if I ever found them. We are so obsessed about these newly sexual allegations we lose sight of these serious issues that have gone on for years. And also with this case did Johnny Gosch become part of the group that he was forced into by pressure and if he was arrested by some chance of kidnapping a child for the group would he be condemned as a pedophile or would somebody look at it as he was groomed into the person that worked for the group he was taken by? I understand these allegations are serious but at the same time we have lost sight of things that are atrocious and turning children into sex slaves and damaged. Â
We also attack peopleâs infidelity now but praise things like Hamilton. Which donât get me wrong I love everything about the musical Hamilton, and the story, and the man that was Hamilton and did great things for this country, but this is a man who cheated on his wife. I have seen the very same hardcore feminists that damned Joss Whedon to hell for cheating saying go see Hamilton its great. So you are condoning it for one and not the other. For me itâs not my life and itâs not my business. Just because these people are celebrities doesnât mean I should condemn anyone, because everyone does make mistakes and I donât know the whole storyâŚit is not my place to condemn anyone and would hope if it were me I would not wanted to be condemned for my mistakes because I am far from perfect.
And what about the fair pay situation? My issue with the fair pay between men and women is that we are focusing on male and female celebrities that already make thousands upon thousandsâŚsometimes millions upon millions of dollars. If it is a local teacher situation I can understand because teachers make dirt and teachers deserve it. What about the everyday person? I make 13.50 an hour and barely survive but there is no laws to protect everyday people when it comes to everyday working practices or pay so I canât say Iâm crying over actresses making money. Thatâs not me being insensitive but they arenât struggling like normal people are to pay bills to keep a roof over their families head.  When it becomes about the everyday people I will take an interest.
All in all I believe people need to take a step back and realize whatâs really going on. We need to focus on the bigger issue that make these mainstream issues in the first place. We need to change the culture and standards to make a difference and we need to find the facts before condemning people. Please hear my plea because there is so much going on that is wrong but we need to all work together to change it instead of attacking. Â
