I just saw a post on my dash that mentioned her, and got into the mood to gush about Fordola rem Lupis again. Because honestly, she's one of the truly great things to come out of Stormblood. She's allowed to be so many things a female character often doesn't get to be, especially in the type of story/genre she's in. She's a nasty piece of work. She's not sexualized at all. She has a tragic backstory that explains, but doesn't excuse her actions. She's an extremely competent villain. Her primary motivation for the whole of the expac is to make people suffer. She's bitter about losing and getting captured, in an ugly way. She responds cautiously but positively to being treated like a human being, for maybe the first time in her life. She gets to be angry about being proven wrong, and about having to go through what she did that turned her into the nasty person she was. She's not forgiven, but she keeps her dignity and keeps working towards being someone better. She gets to grow and change and become someone better than she was, while still keeping the edge that makes her so fascinating.

The different between doing something evil and being evil is that being evil means repeating behavior and not wanting to better yourself because you feel like you don't have to.
