Photos of women in traditional portuguese costumes
Viana do Castelo, Minho region, northern Portugal
I) Traje de Mordoma (Mordoma’s costume) – A bride dressed with the mordoma’s costume, consisting of a solemn black outfit, and displaying the rich gold ornamentation. The Mordoma was a young daughter of a rich farmer, who, in the past, helped in the organization of religious festivities.
II) Traje de Domingar (Sunday costume) – Woman wearing her costume for Sundays and holidays while displaying some gold jewellery, something that the working outfit wouldn’t allow it. Still, not as elaborated as the richer costumes, like the wealthy lavradeira.
