so a bunch of people have already written about their dynamic (both hypothetical and post-canon since thats where they interact most). it focuses on dirkjohn but i think theres a bunch of additional appeal in seeing them as t4t (tfem4tfem my preference)

i can sum it up as like, opposites attract, complimentary colors (dark blue though), similar goals and attachment to the grand adventures and the narrative, dissatisfaction with regular life which they attempt to fix with different methods but the same goal.

june usually follows the lead of other cooler awesomer girls like vriska (and i note that imo dirk is like male vriska if she was raised in total and complete isolation) BUT. junes not really shown to take happily to dirk's guidance/narration and, as the heir of breath shes the embodiment of freedom which goes perfectly against dirk's control issues, and in the same vein dirks preoccupations and ponderings on identity and philosophy and inability to stop pushing people would do well to break down junes masks and force her to introspect instead of repressing everything. that does also lead into my part about how i specifically love transfem dirkjune so much because they both have hangups with masculinity and being a man— june being canonically a trans woman (though the eggbert has yet to crack) with inexplicable discomfort with her dad and his repeated affirmations of "youre becoming a Young Man" and hatred of clowns (extremely masculine in homestuck) the ONLY person whos made her furious is the comics main villain aka caliborn aka Misogyny Personified and the only "man" caliborn disliked was june.

dirk can be read as transmasc or transfem but the way he acts is like masculinity is more like a Role he has to fill, hes so weird and uncomfortable about labels so he forces himself into the role of Manly Male Man Dude Guy Man and while i feel she would do the same to herself for any other label (trying to be the most fem woman ever when thats not it, doing his best to conform to Thin White Androgyny because thats what it means to be nonbinary obv) and ultimately would end up being unlabeled

yeah i think as a kid june wouldve watched the matrix with her dad but zoned out halfway through because she "didn't get the point" and thought it was weird. over a decade later watching it with beck and dave and karkat, she's like.. Oh. oh. oh..... and tears up like this is the movie it gets it and now she can see what it was trying to say now that she's escaped

side note 1: whenever i imagine june watching movies jharley is always inexplicably there. like not necessarily having fun but they're there with june for her interests. i think the harleyberts and davekat would have a movie club and sometimes lara joins in, and less frequently jane also drops by to share his baking

usually when jane comes to hang, it's with doll in tow because they're Bros they come in a pair do not attach doll from her emotional support bakerboy. doll spends most of the time near lara and jane and sometimes heckles the movie for being bad with dave, but june and doll sit on opposite sides of the couch. theyre just.. not that close you know

but june watched the matrix and she wants everyone else she knows to also watch the matrix because 80% of this friendgroup is transfem and vriska would absolutely love it!

at movie club meetings, they usually pause every five minutes for dave or karkat to rant about some detail or the other, and the harleyberts just comment, but june has gotten so hyperfixated on this movie with her adhd swag she keeps stopping to say "and in this part the director said she-" etc etc. karkat jokes and vriska pokes him back and everyone laughs fondly because they can see how much this movie means to june especially

but doll is slightly floored. she's probably closeted atp, in the sense that she's realised she's likely a trans woman but doesn't think she's allowed to be because of everything a Dirk is supposed to stand for, and she's watching june egbert tgirl extraordinaire dissect neo's mindset just like doll's own in movie nerd fashion and Ohhh shit She's so pretty. fuck. fuck

of course doll doesn't say any of this out loud because she'll die before she admits weakness but jane knows that look well and drags her over to june (and vriska) after the movie's over and forces doll to be like. Hey. Yeah. Your analysis of The Matrix was pretty cool. . Uh. I'd love to. Talk more. About your thoughts on it. Sometime. and junes like :D yeah sure!

(vriska is in the background trying not to laugh because she's seen this exact transition scenario with like terezi and dave by now. she runs over to tell kanaya and rose about it, who respectively go "I'm Glad They're Learning More About Themself I Guess?" and "I can't believe my ectofather might be trans and I'm learning this because June of all people managed to smooth-talk them.")
