The monster religion in Deltarune just being the game's prophecy really reminded me of your old comic about Chara being from a cult that worshipped the player.
Considering all the angel symbolism around the player in Deltarune, it might literally be the same idea. Truly no one can predict the themes of Toby Fox's work like you.

Hello! I know your Dogs of Future Past comic is like, 10 years old by this point but I felt like I just had to tell you how much I loved that comic ^-^. I first watched the comic dubs for it back in 2017 and fell in love. My headcanon for Charas origins have been from that comic ever since I first saw it, and it’s been my favorite undertale comic ever since. I’ve re-read it multiple times now and still think about it occasionally lol.

Okay, I need to carefully watch through all of the dialogue again, but just scrubbing through it for some footage I do need, there's nothing in there saying that their friendship is 'forced,' and that Noelle is not or does not actually want to be friends with Kris. The term 'forced' is just used specifically with them being on the ferris wheel at the festival together. If anything it seems to be more hinting towards a childhood sweetheart romance being forced than their friendship.

I think if there's anything we've learned about Susie, it's that it's really difficult to predict how she will react to things. If she takes it as a betrayal in the same way she did with Lancer in chapter one, though, I can't imagine things would go well.

I think Carol is a possibility, but I still have my money on Dess. The imagery of a baseball bat / baseball and all that feels extremely deliberate, and I definitely think Carol could be working in some capacity to try and bring Dess back without actually being the Knight herself.

If you were to write dogs of future past today, what do you think would change about the story?
I'm sure I've answered this previously, but I'd probably change Chara's characterization. I think I was too stuck in the "oh Chara's the EVIL demon child" mindset much of the fandom had at a time, and I didn't start to get a better handle on their character until after writing their origin comic. Also change stuff about their relationship with Sans and Sans' knowledge of other timelines and such.
