it's the 4th of may, dutch rememberance day. maybe a good time to remember that the netherlands cares more about their own people who were killed than the genocides/armed conflicts/colonialism where they were the perpetrator. it's peak european ignorance and hypocrisy. "we must remember everyone who passed then and now. here and elsewhere" my brother in nothing, you can't fucking say that and send your precious euros to israel. you can't say that and fund a genocide. i respect each and every one of the people telling their stories at that ceremony, it was genuinely beautiful. this type of history needs to be remembered so it can't be repeated, it's a true and extremely necessary statement in this time. the dutch government says it over and over again, while they are making sure that the same harm they are remembering gets repeated, just somewhere else. i don't care about the bullshit that the government is saying and how we all must remember the people who died. you're remembering and mourning the same violence that you're funding. fuck you

Three bouquets, for my grandparents and me, to leave at the monument tonight.
Tijdens de Nationale Herdenking herdenken wij allen - burgers en militairen - die in het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden of waar ook ter wereld zijn omgekomen of vermoord sinds het uitbreken van de Tweede Wereldoorlog, en daarna in oorlogssituaties en bij vredesoperaties. Alle herinneringen daaraan komen samen tijdens de Nationale Herdenking. Om 20.00 uur is het overal in Nederland twee minuten stil. Twee minuten, waarin we ons realiseren dat we hier in vrijheid twee minuten stil kunnen en mogen zijn.
During the national remembrance day we honour all - civilians as well as military - who have died or been killed in the kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere in the world since the start of the Second World War or after that in war situations or peace missions. All memories come together on the national remembrance day. At 20.00 it will be silent throughout the entire country for two minutes. Two minutes, during which we realise we are able and allowed to be silent in freedom.

rememberance day in the netherlands has been really interesting the past few years. let's remember everyone who passed in WWII and other subsequent armed conflics. no we are not acknowledging the genocides that are currently happening because it's our allies who are doing it. nooooo that's not genocide, you're sooo silly. when we remember the genocide of the past, we only mean the one that we're not currently financing. never again, we have to remember the people that died! also: our bestie israel is getting more money! no yea, we acknowledge that people are getting hurt but we aren't condemning it at all. yes we are condemning the holocaust and everyone else who died then. yes we are banning any sign of protest against our governmental hypocrisy from the official rememberance ceremonies. because anyone who asks for other conflics to be included doesn't respect the people that died for this country!!!
oh no! what happened???!!?? our monument to remember everyone who died in WOII and other conflics got red paint and the word 'genocide' on it?????? how dare these activists not respect our rememberance day. the day where we're so selective about which people's deaths we care about!!!!! ironic really
